The Daytona 500
Hubby is watching the race (he waits for this all year). It seems the track is now falling apart (the asphalt) and they are under caution.
The amount of money charged to be a spectator at this race runs from $55 for the cheap seats (on the back side) to over a $1000 for the absolute best seats. The sponsors of the race and the individual cars pay a ton of money. The track hasn't been repaved since the 1970s!
Does anyone else think this is a disgrace? They have tons of money, they have lots of time between races (February to July) and they have a sweetheart deal in the way of property taxes in the city of Daytona. I think it behooves them (NASCAR) to keep the track in perfect condition.
Mind you, I am not a race fan. Other than making my husband very sad, I couldn't care less about the races. I'm just annoyed when I see big corporations doing things on the cheap. Of course, I could be completely wrong. Maybe this was not their fault. Somehow I doubt it.

It's beyond the disgrace! Is it even safe anymore? Legal, come to think of it?
Yep the greed disregarding decency - how disgusting..

Daytona 500
Leslie,
I am a race fan and I was very unhappy about how things went today. I had the same thoughts as you did. I felt bad for the racers, the crews, and the fans who all patiently waited while the race was stopped two different times to put their lame patches on the track.
Sounds like your hubby and I would get along great. We both like airplanes and stock car racing.

The potholes did seem dumb as Digger. BUT....it did allow those of us who were feeling poorly to take naps and wake up and the race STILL be going on....Plus, it allowed for watching Olympic coverage in between!

Wow... isn't that horribly dangerous for the drivers? I don't know anything about racing, but I don't like potholes in my local street - lol

You shouldn't have done that, Mianna. Now I am only going to see Haley Mills whenever I think of you! LOL
