Snow hasn't hit here on lovely Long Island yet Richard, but my migraine just did. I have a feeling we are going to get a bit more than 3-6 because of the migraine I am feeling now. Thanks for reminding me about supplies though, I'm a bit of a dummy LOL and I should go get milk for my daughter ASAP!!! Last time we got the blizzard we ran out of a few things and had to wait for the big plow to come since the little plow got stuck.

Thanks so much for the concern and BIG BIG BIG thanks for the reminder. You just saved me a possible cranky day with my daughter!!! Very Happy

Crazy weather! Here I am up in Canada waiting for the winter olympics to start and we are all in shorts and t-shirts.

We are trucking and flying in snow form other mountains just to get the olympic venues ready!

East Coast USA Check In - Are You OK? Empty we are yet alive ...

Post  charmed quark Fri Feb 05, 2010 4:33 pm

I'm in NJ near Philadelphia, right at the highest expected snow fall. Absolutely nothing yet and it is still above freezing. In any case it is suppose to be less than that freak December snowfall we had of 24 inches. Right now they are predicting only 13 inches. As long as it is less than 15 I can easily handle it with my snow blower. (Or I should say my wife, as I can't do much physical labor anymore...)

I'm in the suburbs of Philadelphia - Valley Forge, PA - and we have a nice coating of snow already. We've got enough supplies and meds to get us through till Monday. I currently hate the snow and what it does to my head, but it's so beautiful.

East Coast USA Check In - Are You OK? Empty I love the snow

Post  charmed quark Fri Feb 05, 2010 4:55 pm

As long as it falls on the weekend so I can clean up the property before I go to work. So I'm looking forward to this one.

I already have our weekend snowy winter menu planned: pot roast tonight, just finished; a cauldron of vegetable-beef soup for tomorrow while we shovel snow, etc. and homemade pizza for dinner; and polenta with black kale and sausage for Sunday. I just baked a coffee cake for breakfast. This sort of weather is just great for cooking hearty food.

And we really never have much trouble from snow. The worst I can remember was that 30 inch blizzard we had a while back. That shut the place down for about 48 hours. Anything else and we are up and running by the next day.

I just love it, it is so beautiful. Our newish puppy loves it too. Our elderly cat, on the other hand ....

Cold is actually good for my symptoms. But low pressures can sometimes set me off.

I'm in the MIdwest and last night they predicted we were going to get 3-6 in.. It ended up being mostly rain and maybe an inch of snow because it never got cold enough.

Here's hoping you guys can dodge some of it too!

Near Harrisburg, PA here.... And there's plenty of snow on the ground already with more coming. I haven't been out tonight, but the news said as of 11 pm there was already 5-11 inches on the ground depending where you were. The worst is yet to come, so it is going to be a doozy. I got supplies in...bread, milk, eggs, chips and toilet paper. LOL

I'm really hoping that we don't lose power. Not only do Frank and I both have sleep apnea and require CPAPs to sleep, but we are also on a well. No power? No water....no heat.... no cooking....no phone, and worst of all... no COMPUTER! Wink

So far, though, we're fine. I'll check in again tomorrow.

Thanks for worrying about us, Richard.

Hey Charmed Quirk, can I come stay with you for a bit? Your food sounds REALLY yummy! Or you can package it and send it over to me..I'm down for that too LOL. Recipes not so much because it is always so much better when someone else makes your home cooked meal! Laughing

Hope you are enjoying your snowy weather. I guess I was wrong, and thank goodness. My migraine was easily controlled tonight and the snow hasn't fallen yet. The predictions dropped to 1-4 inches. Hopefully tomorrow will be a nice and easy day!

Well, what else do you do during a snow storm. Plus I'm on a gluten-free diet so I have to cook most of my food.

white-out conditions and the snow is up to the window ledges of the house. Good thing we can a gas rangetop and a large warm dog in case the power goes ....

UP to the window! Shocked Sounds like that's a bit more than the 13" they predicted. Guess you got the extra 5" that they predicted for us that was really rain.

My youngest gets very upset at weathermen. He takes failed forecasts quite personally. He'll come down and say "I hate the weatherman. He lied to me". That child brings so much fun into our lives.

He has a unique perspective on language. It's not lampshade, it's a "hood for the light". You don't cry, your "tears are dripping". The video store is a "movie shop", grocery store a "food shop".

East Coast USA Check In - Are You OK? Empty snow migraine

Post  charmed quark Sat Feb 06, 2010 10:36 am

Well, I overdid it shoveling and snow-blowing snow and triggered a mild migraine. Resting up so I can attempt it again. It seems well over two feet with 4 foot drifts against the house and garage door that I had to shovel though just to get outside. I think I'll put the other people to work for a while and just cook when I get over this.

This reminds me of what my son used to say when he was little and wanted to crawl into bed with us. "Mom, I don't have any yawns left", meaning he couldn't go to sleep. His circadian rythym has been set for late nights and sleeping late in the morning since he was born. He's also a migraineur.

Hope you're all staying warm and safe on the east coast. We had about 4" last night, but we're used to it. I understand the wind is to start blowing now that you've received all that snow. That's when it is dangerous to be out on the roads (blizzard conditions). Some of the pictures on the news are eye-opening.

Take care,

Post  30yrsofheadache Sat Feb 06, 2010 3:32 pm

Thanks for asking Richard. My poor Hubbie is getting the worst of it. The shoveling is never ending. We really should have bought a snow blower since I am not much help and he has a bad back. I did shovel the snow on Monday and reinjured my neck that I hurt helping my sister move.Between that and the weather my head is complaining.

We appear to be topping out at about 25 inches. It is hard to measure since we had snow on the ground before the storm.Luckily, I braved the stores on Thursday with all the other insane people.I have spent a lot of time cooking and baking which I find relaxing when I have time. I too am on a gluten free diet so mostly cook from scratch. My petsitting business is slow right now thank goodness. I am very worried about the orphan cats I care for. The owner died of cancer and I was taking care of them for a year during his illness (he traveled weekly for treatments).

His brother is stationed in Afghanistan, and the brothers wife is not really fond of cats. They are both elderly cats, so I am worried that the power might go out. They live in the house alone right now until the brother gets back in the Spring. I left huge amounts of food and water, so they wont starve. I dont think I will be able to get there for another day or so. OK, back to making spaghetti and meatballs, cookies and bread. I am going to gain 20 pounds if I'm not careful! Hope everyone is safe and warm.
Hugs,
Cindy

They're saying we have 27" of snow!!! Thankfully it has stopped. It's the second biggest snowstorm on record - first in 1996. Our 3 pound chihuahua looks outside and barks cause he's scared of it. Thankfully, he's litter trained. One good thing about living in an association is that our sidewalk and up to our house is shoveled out for us. Smile

Oddly, my M is getting worse since it stopped. But I took meds and napped and feeling a bit better.

Here in Minnesota we are supposed to get up to 10 inches by noon tomorrow. No big deal in this state. Everyone goes about their business as usual. It is beautiful--went snowmobiling through the woods caked in snow yesterday.

East Coast USA Check In - Are You OK? Empty More Snow!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post  30yrsofheadache Mon Feb 08, 2010 7:53 am

We are expecting another 8=12 inches tomorrow on top of what we have! Our street has yet to be plowed. It is quite deep with only one lane for both directions. Even the main rout through our town is not clear. I did manage to make it to see the orphan kitties yesterday in Zoe's small 4 WD. It is good for deep snow, but too light in general.

I actually prefer driving my Highlander, it is quite good in most conditions. I hope the stores have more food today, there was almost no meat yesterday. I am tired of cooking. To make it worse, I am coming down with something. Fever, aches, stuffy. Wahhhhh. Ok I'm done complaining. Think I will post my first picture at Ronda's after all these years to show me in the snow. cheers
Hugs,
Cindy

I am about an hour north of Pitts. we got 10". But we have power, we are fine. It sure it beautiful, but like I read what some of you wrote, the storm affected my migraines! I have had a killer of one until this evening.

I actually called my neuro for something to break the cycle and he had a cancelation. So I drove to Pitts. today. They got a lot more snow than we did!

Starting me on a steroid pack to break the cycle. Then Prozac, but I will mix it with cranberry juice. It is suppose to help my body to accept it better. One of my big problems is that I am so sensitive to pharmaceutical drugs that I can't take them. I guess this is something new. He gave me a formula to follow. so much Cranberry juice and empty so many capsules into it, then take a teasp. of it a day... wild huh?

And oh, by the way, another snow storm is approaching, we could get another 8-10 by thursday! Yikes.... What a Face

Wishing for a nice peaceful evening for everyone! Would be nice if it were pain free..... I love you

East Coast USA Check In - Are You OK? Empty More snow ....

Post  charmed quark Tue Feb 09, 2010 8:34 am

We got 27 inches in the last one where I am, near Philadelphia. But the snow removal was great. They kept plowing thought the storm and by the time it ended the roads were already clear. I started clearing my sidewalks and driveway late Saturday, but had to finish Sunday because I got a migraine.

But now they are saying we are going to get it again. Our micro-forecast is saying 15-18 inches of denser snow than last time, so harder to shovel. And this will be happening over a workday so it might be harder for the towns to clear the streets.

I guess we'll live on snow ice cream the next couple of days ...

Our area normally has 19 inches of snow a season and Vancouver 18". So far we've gotten 57 inches and Vancouver 0.5 inches. We need to figure out how to send snow to Vancouver for the Winter Olympics.
