need some advice- neuro appt and possible med change
Hi All,
I know it has been know it has been awhile since I posted, but I thought I'd check in and I need some advice.
I see my neurologist on Friday to resume Botox treatment- I had to put it on hold for a bit due to the fact that I was diagnosed with severe anemia in May. This led to weekly iron infusions. The cause turned out to be a large ovarian cyst and a large fibroid in the uterus. I would up having a abdominal hysterectomy and also had one ovary removed. I am feeling better and am no longer anemic. This is good.
I see my neurologist on Friday for botox and an appointment. The stimulator and botox work fairly well to keep things under some control. If I have a bad one, a combination of pain meds, klonopin, and benedryl will help some. There is one problem- the klonopin just isn't working very well right now. I have been on it for several years. It used to help- but now all it does is make me irritable and out of it. I have been on Ativan and valium in the past and both worked well for several years. I really hope that he will let me go back to Ativan or another medication in the same class. These have always worked pretty well for me. I know there are probably newer medications out there and if there is a reasonable alternative I will try it. I just hope we can find something that helps.
I'm also a little worried about asking him. For the last year or so, my psychiatrist has prescribed the klonopin. Before that, my old neuro did prescribe it. I don't want to sound like a drug seeker or anything. I just want something that can help without making me incredibly out of it. I'm ok if it workds, but makes me a little out of it. I just don't like it when it doesn't work and there is nothing you can do about it.
I'm not sure what to do right now. I have been battling a pretty bad migraine for the last two weeks. I'm doing my best to avoid IV Depakan, but it may be time for an iV. I've exhausted most of the usual resources at hoime- meds, toradol injections, decadron, and one nitrous oxide treatment. I just want a break from all of this and I just don't know what to do.
I'd love any advice.

Sailing, I think you explained yourself very well to us. (You do not sound like a drug seeker to me, btw.) Maybe you should just say all of this to your neuro/dr, the same way you said it to us.

I'm curious about nitrous oxide treatments . I've heard that nitrous oxide is contraindicated in migraines!!
