MRI testing today Empty MRI testing today

Post  LG Thu Dec 10, 2009 1:19 pm

so i have my MRI and X-ray (the x-ray is bc i used to work as a machinist and they want to
make sure i don't have residual metal shards in me) test today.
I don't know whats got me all shaken up about it. I'm not scared of small spaces or anything of the sort.
I did have one when I was 12 for my first migraine and they gave me contrast.
I found out i was allergic and I had some sort of a reaction and passed out.
I don't really remember, so it wasn't frightening.
I just know that I can't have contrast anymore lol.

All day i've been making homemade chicken soup (my second homemade food adventure!)
to keep my mind from wandering to the tests.
I get all these butterflies in my tummy whenever i think about it.
I know I'm just being paranoid, i'm sure everything is going to go great and
i'm going to be just fine but man, i'm just so nervous!
Anyone else get like this before testing?

Just spinals!!!! Scary!

I do fine with MRI's. When I was a little girl my mother used to let me sleep in the kitchen cabinets because I loved the close confinement of it.

Wishing you the best of luck. Just relax and everything will be ok.

Ask for the headphones.

For me, MRIs are some of the most relaxing places--odd. I can fall asleep.

I have had several MRI's. I don't mind them at all. I'm not claustrophobic though. THey gave me headphones to wear with my choice of music to drown out the "pounding" of the machine. If being in the small space bothers you, just try to close your eyes and visualize yourself in a wide open field.

thanks guys. i got the headphones. no choice of music but it didnt matter i couldnt hear it anyways.
the woman who did the test was rude as hell. she wouldn't get my husband for me to sit through the test,
she left my pocketbook in a place i couldn't view it but where everyone else could,
and she left the damn door open to the testing room.
she put the headphones on my head wrong and i swear the music was so low
it was pointless and thats all i was thinking about the entire time.

she also did the xray prior to the test. rude during that, too. fiesty little woman.

i left the place with a bad headache from the loud noises of that machine.
Does that ever happen to anyone else? I'm trying to figure out if it was all the pounding
or if it was just me being all hyped up and stressed all day. Maybe both. Who knows.

Either way it went okay. I guess i'll find out the results on the 15th at my appointment.
I think i'm going to discuss triptans too. I don't want to give up trying everything i can
because i dont want to be on narcotics if i dont have to be.
They work for me, but eh..i don't like the way they make me feel, and
i hate the way my family makes me feel for taking them. I also hate for asking
for more refills, stronger scripts..ect. If i can avoid that by getting a triptan that works,
It'd be great.

Any suggestions on what I should try? I've used with no success Frova, Imitrex and Treximet.
I know theres others out there..i'm not sure why he didn't try them first. Maybe because of frequency?
Then again, there's supposted to be a limit of how many hydrocodone i can take, too..
Eh this stuff is way too mind boggling for my head pain. Wink

Hi,
medical exams and visits scare me to death!!!
I just feel terribly anxious and tensed when I see a doctor...
I think it's related to deeper inner traumas and fears.
I avoid them as much as possible, but when it's needed I spend horrible days waiting for results even if I know that I have nothing to worry about pale

I had good luck with Relpax for years. It worked best for me out of all the triptans, and I tried all of them.

Now I use DHE injections because the Relpax quit being effective for me last year.

My girlfriend uses Relpax with great success. I haven't had much luck with Triptans but I think I'll ask for some next visit.

Yes I believe i'm going to ask for some too. Anyone know anything about white matter lesions and taking triptans. I was under the impression that if they show up on your MRI its not recommended to take triptans, or at least certain triptans. I'm new at all this scientific shtuff. Smile

When anyone is trying any new drug, no matter what it may be, I wish them success. It is strange that so many of us have tried each others daily medications and what works for some does nothing for others and vice versa. I for one had problems with Triptans in that they made my heart race to the point of chest pains, but I know of people who have had tremendous success with them and very few side effects. We've got our fingers crossed for the results of your MRI also.
