New drug? Old Drug? Legit drug?
My Husband has a friend who has migraines too, and she says she takes "Mydrin". I looked it up and it's only made in Japan, china and Korea. Does anyone know anything about this? Is it legit? Can we get a perscription here? Cause I saw that it can be ordered online and that makes me wary.

I remember midrin from the 1970's.....it was prescribed for menstral cramps and as I recall it was pretty effective. It has acetaminophen, dichloralphenazone (a sedative) and isometheptene (a vasoconstrictor). I think it is a prescription med that is still available.

Midrin was available in the US until quite recently, when the generic manufacturers stopped. Some compounding pharmacies may be able to make it with a prescription if they can get the ingredients. I saw an article that said Epidrin and Prodrin are similar. Midrin is quite different than other migraine abortives as its not an ergot or a triptan. Doesn't work for everyone though. I actually haven't tried it, but heard all the fuss when it became unavailable a couple years ago. Best wishes.

Woo!
Well it is good to know that it is a legit drug. When I meet this girl, I'll have to find out how she is getting her pills.
As for ergot...I was suprised to find out that it's the fungus that grows in wheat. As in, the hallucinogenic fungus that was blamed for the mass hysteria of the Salem Witch Trials.
I think I will look into Midrin, but I am also just gonna stay on my homeopathic routes if I can make it.

I'm pretty sure I took this but it was a long time ago, probably 18 years I'd guess. It did nothing. It was like taking Excedrin. A neurologist prescribed it and said it was the best thing for migraine pain. Ice packs gave me more relief. I didn't realize they don't sell it in the U.S. anymore.
I guess it's like everything - works for some people and not others.

I took Midrin as an abortive, before it was discontinued. It worked well for me; one pill and then another a couple of hours later. The neurologist, then prescribed Epridrin. Epidrin appears to have the same combination of medications as Midrin.

Well here's my next problem. How do I ask a doctor for this drug (epidrin)? I haven't been to a doc in years, the last one I went to was a neurologist who was a bumbling idiot. I tried to make an appointment recently with a local doctor (because my migraines have gotten worse.), and they decided over the phone that I was a "seeker". It's very frustrating because deep down I don't really want to take a narcotic, but I don't see any other *real* relief in sight via homeo and chiropractors.

Time to find a new doctor, either a GP or a neurologist.
I would totally avoid any place that decides you are a seeker over the phone.
What a crock! Be glad you didn't waste any time on them.
Try to get a recommendation in your area for someone who specializes in migraine treatment.

I don't think that Epidrin is classified as "seeker" type drug; like Vicodin or Norco.
Please check, on the internet, to make sure that the ingridents for both Midrin and Epidrin are the same. But, as the previous poster stated, check with your doctor to see what suits you and your symptoms.

Well we are about to move to a much bigger city, so thankfully my doctor variety will be better. More specialists in the area too!

back in the day
I took it probably 20 years ago. I don't remember it doing much for the headaches, but I remember getting a "celery" after taste with it.
