Seeing patterns

I'm trying to figure this out. Sometimes when I wake up abruptly in the middle of the night, I will see a square with a pattern inside of it. Usually it has color and the square is not outlined but part of the pattern. It covers my whole vision area. It only lasts for a minute then it is gone. I have had zig zag auras in the middle of the night but not all the time. When they happen, usually the zig zag aura is during the day.

I've never had this visual pattern during the day but only at night and it doesn't happen all the time. Sometimes during the day I will have flickers of light. Different colors and white. A lot of the time it is a blue flicker.

It is a weird and scary symptom. I always atributed it to a migraine but now I'm wondering if it is. I have a m this morning so that would explain it. Has anybody ever experienced this before?

This sort of thing happens to me a lot. It is symptomatic of the migraines. Though, an aura can occur with or without a migraine and a migraine doesn't always follow an aura. I get auras both at night and in the day, more at night and a migraine does not always follow. And, most of the time my migraines come without any aura at all. Migraines and all that comes with them can be so unpredictable...
