Botox Treatments ????
My doctor has finally decided he will try to get some Botox treatments authorized for me. I have migraines 24/7 and take Zomig (in quarter pill doses) one to two times a day and definitely at night because those morning migraines are so debilitating. I am 66 years old and my migraines got worse after menopause, which was 16 years ago.
So I am hoping that these treatments get approved and I have looked at old posts about them but would love some input about whether they work and what the treatments are like, etc.
Thanks to everyone who responds (in advance)

Re: Botox Treatments ????
I am too about to give it a try. I'm 17 and have had cronic daily headaches for five years now, tried the most common drugs(valproic acid, amitryptiline, topiramate, propanolol and others) and had no luck, maybe this'll do the work. I have an appointment on january 18th and I'm really exited, maybe the migraines will finally go away, it's not only hurting my quality ofl life, but the constant use of ergotamine damaged my stomach.
Good luck, hope that the botox works for you!

not so good
Yes, I did. I received Botox treatment Jan. 4. Since then, I have not had one migraine-free day. So, obviously, it hasn't helped. Good luck!

Re: Botox Treatments ????
I have recieved two rounds of Botox treatments. The good news for you is that they are suppose to work better each time you get them. I'm not sure if mine had any effect, but my doc seems to think that they kept the migraines away until noonish (rather than waking up with them). The second round came right before my "drug holiday" where they pulled me off of my methergine (my main drug) for one month, which was horrible, so I'm not sure if they worked.
A word about the shots themselves: they sound intimidating, what with so many shots, but they are just tiny pricks in the skin. What I have found is that they give me a migraine and I have had to stay overnight in a hotel (doc is 1 1/2 away from where I live), so be prepared in case you don't have anyone to drive you.
Good luck!!! Keep us posted if it works!

re:botox treatments
hey,
thanks, i should think of the size of the injections that is more comforting.
i def. will have someone drive me just in case. i always seem to be the one that has the adverse or unexpected reaction.
though over the years i have realized that just because the medicine does not work i am not in the minority. more people on this site are talking about how stuff doesn't work for them either. i used to wonder what was wrong with me. as i told my pain therapist its not that i am not reacting to the meds. -- its that the meds. don't work for me.
thanks for the info. and the tip about a driver.

Re: Botox Treatments ????
so yeah this topic is pretty dead but still i feel like i need to talk
soon, as in any day now because my neurologist wants to do it as soon as possible, i will get the injections. The botox has just a arrived, 200ml.
I'm pretty happy, since i was originally rejected by my insurance and my stomach has been suffering alot from the ergotamine.
When i get the inyections i will make a post and share my personal experience during the application as well as the following days, because i know this might be helpfull for someone that like me, has been suffering cronic migraines for ages.

re:botox treatments
hey,
i hope you get your botox asap! i wish you the best. can't wait to hear about it and how you feel.
this topic did die out but it was because of me. i had my injections on april 2nd and have pretty much not noticed any results.
had the worst migraine that day and had to drive 45 minutes to get my 31 inj. probably told you this but i then called my husband and he met me at the urgent care clinic where i got 2 more injections - for the migraine. these were a lot lower than the botox, in my backside! botox does not work right away so i decided to end the migraine then and not wait till a.m. to go to my clinic.
although i have not had any relief, i am scheduled later this month to do round 2 of botox.
i will let you know if anything changes. fingers crossed!

Re: Botox Treatments ????
Got the injections a couple hours ago. 200 units: 6 injections in forehead, 4 on each temple, 4 or more on the back of the neck which were the worst ones due to the weird sensation, that's why i can't remember exactly how many injections I had there, my blood pressure went down from that weird sensation which passed in a couple minutes. The rest of the units were divided on each of my shoulders: 5 in each I think, sorry was feeling crappy but I just wanted to keep going. It all took about 25 minutes since entering the doctors room, preparing the needles which were extra thin, an inch of length and two and a half inches I think, getting the injections and leaving.
Besides from the blood pressure issue I have often when it involves 'doctor needles' but doesn't happen when I get piercings for some reason, the experience was excellent. No bleeding, you can't even tell where I had the injections done.
I was told I would see the full results in about a month, and would feel the botox doing it's job in some days.
Pretty exited for the upcoming weeks, I really wish to eliminate those chronic migraines. By the way, I'm also on 50mg of amitryptiline.

Interesting. My migraines have been 24/7 since menopause also. I am 64. I tried Botox. It did nothing for me. Hope it helps you.

MG, I am not sure that Pen is talking about herself, or someone else getting the Botox treatemnt. My impression was that it was anothether person, from "her group"? It is not made very clear.

Botox Treatments???
Hey everyone,
I've been waiting to comment on this one because I wanted to make sure I had given the injections enough time to work. For me, botox has been an abysmal failure. I had my second round a couple of weeks ago and not only have my migraines not improved, they are actually worse. They have increased in intensity and my windows of migraine-free time have shrunk. My neck has also been affected; I have lost mobility and there is a kind of diffuse pain/discomfort there all of the time.
I had a few rounds of botox a couple of years ago, using different injection sites. Looking back at my migraine diaries, I would say that the botox may have had something to do with the increased severity of my symptoms at that time as well.
Having said all that, I know that botox does wonders for a lot of people so I think it is worth a try.

re:botox treatments
hi,
i feel so badly for you. why does this have to happen. why can't botox just not work. why do we have to get more headache pain and/or neck pain? i guess i was lucky just to have no results, but i was assuming my migraines got worse because of the unusual heat and humidity -- maybe it was really the botox.
well in late aug. i get to try it for round 2. will update you guys.
sorry, c.m. that you had such pain.
