I have had one round of botox with no relief does it take more than one to help? Also has anyone tried the Trans Cranial Magnectic Stimulation
(magnets) one Dr. told me it was only good for people who get auras with there migraines. Which I don't. But when you have tried everything else I said what the hell I will give this a try also. I have been to so many neurologist and migraine specialist they say there is nothing else they can do for me. Its so disheartening.

Hi and welcome to the group! I just got it today for the first time, but I have heard to give it two tries before deciding, as sometimes it won't help the first time but it will the second time (and subsequent times). A lot of times the doctor will use less of the Botox and at less locations the first time, which is recommended so your body can get used of it (less risk of severe side effects, although the risk is low to begin with...much lower than most meds we take). You are supposed to wait 3 months between, but I hear of some doctors doing it more often as their patients have it wear off early.

Haven't heard of the other thing. Have you tried combining therapies even if you didn't get much of any relief from one individually? I've heard of successes by taking two different classes of meds plus Botox for example. I sure don't get much relief, even with daily narcotics, muscle relaxers, and currently Cymbalta, unfortunately. Crossing my fingers about the Botox. Good luck!

Botox is the only thing that has given me relief. It hasn't cured me, but my headaches are less intense and I feel better than I did before. It worked the first time for me, and I go about every three months.

Botox has been a miracle for me. I had it work the first time, but he gave me more injections than he would normally give to first timers because I've had brain surgery and have constant pain around where they went in through my skull.

You are supposed to wait three months between injections. For the first 6 weeks I was 99% headache free - going up to 10 or 12 days in a row with not even a whiff of headache. It started wearing off around week 7, with only a couple of headache free days in a row at a given time. I am now in week 9 and have been back to daily headaches of varying intensity. I moved my next set of injections up a week and am literally counting down the days until June 9th.

I think an important thing to consider at least in my case is that with the blazing success I had during the first 6 weeks of treatment I allowed myself to blissfully forget that I had migraine disease, and all headache hygiene that I was so careful about before - i.e., getting adequate sleep and aerobic exercise, staying hydrated not eating crap, etc - went right out the window. I went out til 3am drinking with friends, repeatedly. Just like a normal person!

I firmly believe the Botox would not have worn off as quickly had I maintained some semblance of personal responsibility over my headache-prone lifestyle, and have high hopes that after the next set of injections I can make it last longer.

Anyway, that is my story. I think you should give it at least one more try, personally. My neuro told me that sometimes it takes a few attempts to get the injections in just the right locations and it'd be a pity if your neuro was just a little off and you missed what could have been awesome success.

Who has tried Botox? Empty hi there newagemarie

Botox did nothing for me. I had one round. The dr. said that if the first round had no effect (no effect at all) that a second round would be of no help. She said that had the first round helped even slightly then a second round would be worth trying. Of course, I'm sure another dr. might have a different opinion. Would you post about the magnet therapy. Are you talking about a magnet pillow or another device??

I believe she is talking about this device: http://headaches.about.com/od/migraine101/a/TMSTrial.htm

It has been proven effective for migraine with aura. You send a short magnetic pulse through the back of your head when an aura hits, and this "short circuits" the developing migraine.

Yes, I had gone ahead and googled it and found it's for migraine with aura. I then came upon a magnetic pillow pad (again). Who knows if that would do anything or not. I think I have pretty much quit trying anything else. Why? Do you know what the definition of insanity is? It's repeating the same pattern over and over again and expecting a different outcome. That's what I've been doing. Time to stop.
