I often wonder if a person who gets chronic and/or severe migraines will get permanent brain damage or stroke out. I've posed this question to my doctor who says no, and since I'm one of those people and my recent MRI is normal, she hardly sees it as something to worry about.

Makes me wonder though....this can't be good for a person! Thoughts?

Migraineurs, especially if they have aura, have a slightly higher rate of stroke. They also have more white lesions than average in the brain. But that's it, as far as I know.

I do feel at 55 years of age and 10 years of migraines, that my abilities are not what they used to be. My husband's aren't either and he doesn't have migraines. I also went through menopause and did not opt for HRT. Estrogen supposedly helps brain function. All of us migraneurs are functioning, ( no one has severe damage) so I think you can relax somewhat.
You can try yoga and yoga breathing exercises. The breathing exercises really help me and sometimes can abort a migraine if caught early enough. Also be sure and eat well, no junk food.

Personally, I am more concerned about the effects of the drugs I have taken than the actual migraines!!!
