Migraine and Anemia...Chicken or Egg?
Hi Everybody.
It's been great reading so many of your posts....I haven't been here in months and I have missed so many of you guys, and just the warm, caring, supportive culture that is fostered on this forum. It's like a homecoming for me
Anyway....I have a question that I was hoping one of you may be able to chime in about..
So, I went to donate blood yesterday and was rejected bc my red blood count was way too low (i.e., I was anemic). I have been told a couple times that I had low iron in my blood but both were connected to medical things that had been going on with me and it was explained as just an effect of that...nothing to worry about, just eat broccoli. But I was surprised to learn of my low hemoglobin yesterday, so I started looking around online, see what I could find. I have found that some studys correlate anemia and migraine, but usually with the presence of a 3rd variable (H.pylori Infection, etc.). I also researched anemia and certain meds that I regularly use for migraines, and I found a correlation there as well. So of course, like any other time I've tried to make sense of info regarding my migraines, I am more confused than when I began.
I'm thinking of requesting a blood work up at my next dr appt to see if there are any other concerning things that I should be aware of.....but I thought I'd check here to see if any of you are anemic and if so do you feel it is a cause or effect of your migraines.
Thanks..
Hugs and Well Wishes to All

ive never been low in iron even after 23 years of migs and numerous meds. never been told of the connection either, it could a drug youre on but of course could be completely coincidental and have no connection but whichever the answer youll feel a lot better when our iron levels are back to normal! have a read up on the migraine action website for migraine info.

I have never been anemic, not even when taking certain meds. The only thing that ever showed on my blood work was once I had a low B12 level. I was advised to take a supplement/vitamin, and I didn't. Then next test was fine and any since then were fine. That is interesting though.

HMMMmmmm
Thanks for your responses. I am seeing a new doctor (OBGYN) for some other health issues wednesday of this week and am going to ask her to do a workup on my blood to help me figure this out.
One again..probably a false lead in solving my migraine mystery. Oh well. I always at least learn a thing or two along the way.
Hoping you all are feeling ok.
