Namenda experiences?
Hi! Happy New Year everyone! I haven't posted in ages!
My neuro wants me to try Namenda. Wondering if anyone here has tried it and what their experience has been?
I know we're all different and some things work for some and not the other, but just want to gather more info. I had decided not to try this, am very gun shy, as you can all appreciate I'm sure! But figure I should give it some better research, as my preliminary searches didn't turn up too much related to migraine usage.
Thanks!

Re: Namenda experiences?
Hi Susan,
I was on Namenda a year or more ago, for about 4 months. I want to say that my neuro/sleep disorder specialist prescribed it for me, as I remember researching it and being surprised that it was an alzheimers drug. I believe it was shortly after I had my sleep study.
I have migraines, CDH, restless legs, apnea, inability to get into stage 4 sleep, neuropathy, ortho hypo and fibro.
I gave it a shot. I had very few side effects, but unfortunately it was one more medication that I have had to cross off the list for pain.
I wish you luck with your decision and may it work better for you if you decide to try it!

I tried it for six months. I did not have ANY results with it. BUT, for me not to have side effects is huge. No anger, no depression, No loss of cognitive function. I actually slept a little better too.
But, it wasn't doing anything for the m's so I discontinued it.
Definitely worth a try! It was not a bad experience as so many have been.

Namenda
I was on Namenda for a couple of months about 2 years ago. I had no side effects (a plus), but it also did not help me.
I have chronic daily migraines and nothing has helped, so maybe it's just me.
Good luck.

Re: Namenda experiences?
I've been on namenda for over a month now and don't notice any effect yet. I don't notice any side effects either though. My doctor had thought it would really help me since I get a lot of facial pain with my migraines and apparently it could help with that. Still waiting to see but my hopes are not high...

Namenda
My neruo gave me this to try as well. I have been on about 20 other preventative medications so this is sort of a last ditch effort. However, I have had no relief and it’s been about two months. It’s a NMDA blocker, so theoretically it should help with pain. My pain management Dr told me that he has tried it with other patients and different types of pain and didn’t see any help but again, it was worth the try.
I have a terrible time with the side effects. More so when I increase the dose. I couldn’t drive or even walk my dogs for two days following an increase in the dose. I have noticed a serious decrease in cognitive abilities. I will recognize and object but I can’t figure out the name for at least ten seconds. It is also REALLY expensive if you don’t have excellent insurance. I was taking 10mg 2x a day (@bed and @waking) but if I took it during the day, I couldn’t do anything. Now I take both pills at night which helps a bit but I am still not as sharp as usual.
Again, no help yet and I can’t seem to get used to the side effects or the cost. I’m going to give it another two weeks but no more.
