Acupuncture? Empty Acupuncture?

Post  kschlanker Sun Oct 24, 2010 12:47 pm

My wife has had migraines since she was 17. She's 31 now. She was taking topimax (topirimate) to try to prevent them, but since it was making her feel disconnected and wasn't stopping anything, she stopped taking it. She takes Lortab for pain and reglan for nausea. She's going to investigate acupuncture as a possibility. Has anyone tried acupuncture?
As I write this, she's still trying to deal with one that started about 4:00 p.m. yesterday.
Thanks,
Kurt

I do weekly acupuncture as a part of my treatment protocol. (I am also on 75 mg. of Topamax) The acupuncture seems to help most with the hormonal aspect of my migraines, which is the most uncontrolled trigger and the one that produces the worst and most prolonged migraines.

It is no panacea, but it is one of several things that helps, though sometimes when things are bad, nothing helps.

Finding the right acupuncturist is key; this is the third acupuncturist I have tried and the first one who I have had any success with. Luckily, mine uses a sliding scale fee, so it is very affordable.

Your wife may have to try several to find one that will work for her.

I wish you both the best.

I found that acupuncture worked on the day that I got it.
The headache came back as usual the next day however.
At $80 a whack and 2 hours of driving I decided it was not worth it.
