Re: Topamax experience
wow interesting thread. Topamax was the first drug the Neuro offered me and he was so rude to me. After reading the side effects I decided against it and what some of you have written here, I'm glad I didn't take it. Who wants more problems, its enough to deal with the migraines! Good Medics are definitely hard to find and its difficult to keep trying different Neuro's when they are so expensive.

Re: Topamax experience
Heelerlady - EVIL is a good description. Couldn't agree with you more, and in my case I wasn't taking anything else with it. In my opinion I can't help think that long term use would have some damaging effects. It hasn't been around long enough.
Lissy - The side effects are actually true in this case, not just warnings to cover their butts if someone does have reactions.
There are people on this forum that have had some relief taking it but so far I haven't heard of any miraculous results. To put up with those kind of side effects, I would have to fully recover from migraines. Just minimizing the migraines is not enough to put up with those tortuous side effects. Some people do not get them though which is amazing..

Re: Topamax experience
Same as many have already posted - topamax made me totally sick and I took myself off it after a miserable 3 weeks. Never even got past the smallest dose - 50mg? Maybe even 25mg? I think it's a rotten drug and if you are sensitive to meds at all, this is not a good one to try especially if you are just starting out. UGH!

Re: Topamax experience
Anna has had problems with so many meds, but Topamax has been ok thus far. This is the fourth trial of Topamax for her. She stopped the other times to try other meds.
I have to say though, her appetite is the lowest it has ever been since she started taking Topamax. She has no appetite whatsoever, and she forces herself to eat (and not much). She is on 50 mg, and she is taking brand name.

Re: Topamax experience
My experience was like Leslie's... I got extremely tightly-wound, and would chew perfect strangers out for standing near my car, etc. My son was a little freaked out....!
My hair fell out--- took about a year to get it back.
And, it didn't help the monster...
