Re: BBC running with the migraine gene....
This is very interesting, thanks for sharing.
The other articles that I read were not as detailed as this one.
Now we just have to wait for a cure
I want to see my TRESK gene and tell him a couple of things that I can't write down here

Re: BBC running with the migraine gene....
This is all over our NATIONAL news. One of our best migraine experts Ann McGregor is speaking on the national news tonight.
I have set it to record.
I wonder where I fit though. Not a family member as you know....
Where is my defective gene?
Or might it be like the one that causes diverse conditions like asthma and eczema....
Has it come out in other ways perhaps in my family...
I just hope they put the money into this, it is shameful if they dont.....
As they said on TV at lunch time..."This is BIG".

Re: BBC running with the migraine gene....
This article is quite a good one.
However Migraine clinic just commented that there is a genetic connection for "some".
So my hopes should be dashed?
I have always said I dont have a link, and many on here have debated this with me.
Now it seems they agree and this finding may not benefit me at all...
So what of my pain, and my fibro the other pain I feel for no apparent reason.
Can this be a victim of this Tresk as well, and if so, is this my link, as my Dad had Fibrositis...
Now I am confused and more than a little downhearted.

Re: BBC running with the migraine gene....
Pen,
are you sure that no one in your family has migraine symptoms?
I have recently found out that my dad has probably been suffering from SILENT migraine. He can have very bad days due to nausea, vomit, depression, fatigue, stiffneck, diziness BUT no head pain at all.
My aunt (his sister) suffers from the same symptoms. My cousin and I suffer from these typical migraine symptoms but also get the head pain. Our grandmother suffered from very bad migraine with horrible head pain.
We have always thought that migraine had skipped one generation, but recently we have found out that it did not: it just hit on my dad and aunt in the silent form.
Also, take into consideration that elder generations used to underevaluate symptoms and pain. They were kind of "stronger" and had a complete different approach towards diseases and pain. Maybe someone in your family (a grandma or granpa) had weird symptoms but never spoke about them....
The other explanation is that you've been genetically modified by aliens ...Just kiddin' here
P.S.: just edited my reply to add that the news is echoing also on all Italian mass-media as a major discovery! GO UK RESEARCHERS!!!!!

Re: BBC running with the migraine gene....
I've said this before, but there's no reason you can't be the first one in your family to have the genetic mutation. DNA gets spontaneously mutated all the time.

Re: BBC running with the migraine gene....
I like the Alien idea Ivy....
Could explain a lot.
Actually my cousin who is like a brother to me (we grew up together) has just died very suddenly at the age of 64.
He flew to Cyprus and died the following morning.
So I have been speaking to his sister a lot about arrangements etc.
We spoke of migraine. She said to me, she doesn't understand it.
No one has them or anything like...she is 10 years older, so recalls even more than I do.
She said to me....you must be the first. Oh goodie, lucky me....
Now its interesting. Drs are always pumping away about the genetics and how there will be someone etc.
Yesterday one of our top migraine drs said on TV "Not everyone has a genetic connection".
Now, for once, that is NOT what I wanted to hear.
It isnt that dont believe in the gene, nor that I dont want to have a connection.
We just cant find one. Gone back to g.grandparents, both sides, included aunts and uncles where possible
My parents, their siblings and all of my 30 cousins....Not one....
I would be happy to find this link. Cant find another reason why I have this crap.
BUT, gotta say. Cant even find anyone who has headaches.
IBS, or yes......headaches nadda.

Re: BBC running with the migraine gene....
Jayme, my son has an extremely rare genetic disorder. It was called a "de novo" deletion. When I asked my GP what de novo meant she said "it's Latin for "shit happens".". I loved that DR. She took away so much of my mothers guilt on what I did wrong with that one little comment.
When I look at the miracle of conception it's amazing to me that they're aren't MORE de novo occurrences and mutations.
