Re: Nerve Blocks
There's a thread about this topic already, it's titled "ocipital nerve block injections." Lots of responses in there.

nerve block
i have had them every 2 months for 2 years and they have chnged my life. theyre worth triying in case they help and if they dont at least youve ticked anothere tx off the list. theyre injections given at the back of the head, not painful just a little sharp for a few seconds.

I had them done, for the first time, this morning. In the back of the head and the forehead. I am to have them once a week for 5 weeks. This is to see if they help. There were 8 injections. Does this sound similar to what you're having done? I am very happy, for you, that they have been so incredibly helpful.

Re: Nerve Blocks
Does not sound like what I had done, but then again, there are many different ways to block a nerve. Hope this works for you.

Re: Nerve Blocks
I saw a different Neurologist recently who suggested this, so it was interesting reading your comments. I've heard it can be very painful so it was good to read your comment Dawn that maybe it needn't be that bad and of course if it helps then it's worth it.

I just wanted to let you know that mine did not hurt. I had 8. The ones in the back just felt like a pressure for a few seconds. The ones in the forehead stung for a few seconds. However he did say that I tolerated them "exceptionally well." So I don't want to garantee that they won't hurt you. Later I had a bit of a tender neck. Still do to-day. But nothing really bothersome. Hope this helps.

Re: Nerve Blocks
Mine have been very, very painful each time. So painful that I take ativan and apply lidocaine before we start.

Really? Now I understand why he said what he did. Glad I didn't realize how it could be beforehand. Who knows what will happen the next time. I'm not going to think about it.

Re: Nerve Blocks
I had the nerve blocks about 3 times. I had them across my forehead, around my ears, and back of my head, probably a total of about 20 injections each time... hurt bad!
No improvement so I quit getting them.
Hope you have better results! Really I do!

Hi Sheri
I don't know what is going to come of this. As mentioned I am going to have 5 treatments. That was his suggestion. We'll see how it goes from there. What the next step will be I don't know. Are you still taking the Butterbur? ( I read all about your situation) I am. 3 months now. No change.

Re: Nerve Blocks
started taking the butterbur again, I quit for about a month, (it was to expensive) started taking the
swansons... alot chepaer.
we'll see.
I hope you have great success with the nerve blocks. I was disappointed it didn't work. My neuro was sure it would....
Have a great day!

Hi Sheri
Your neuro was "sure it would." If there is one thing I've discovered through all of this. Nothing is "sure." I think a lot would agree..... what a life...

Re: Nerve Blocks
Most definitely, I would agree with that. It's all so trial and error. I'm glad it didn't hurt for you Gail, sorry it did for the rest of you. I'm being an ostrich at the moment while waiting for my GP to hear back from the neuro.
