Re: Neck pain, delaying our treatment?
Very interesting study. Lately, my neck pain is often greater than head pain during migraines. I called my Mom in tears the other night and told her someone had stuck a hatchet in my neck (yes I am 50 years old and still call my Mom during bad ones). Luckily, she has heard that one before.
My Dr. wants me to go to an Osteopath since a super PT helped my neck pain last time. Only problem is she doesnt take insurance. I am going to call to see what I can work out. I still have to find a way to pay for Zoe's Botox out of pocket! Two migrainers in one family is soooo expensive. Hope you find something to help your neck pain.
Hugs,
Cindy

Cindy. I am even older and would still call my mum if I had her. Lost her 20 years ago.,
But the neck pain drives me insane ,and nothing touches it.
At least I have Triptans for the head pain...
Hell isnt it.....

I also have a lot of neck pain, not necessarily with migraines, but most days. I have a brother who was diagnosed with cervical spondylitis so maybe I have it too although probably not quite as bad as he does.

Yes, Pen, it is Hell all right. I have plenty of strong narcotics that dont seem to touch it. Trigger point injections helped a lot for a week. My Dr. is a saint and does them for me when I am desperate even though she is a FP who only treats Lyme patients.

Re: Neck pain, delaying our treatment?
I think the neck pain may be the worst part of migraine. At least with my head pain I can wrap my head up in ice packs and achieve some measure of relief. There is no body position, stretch, physical therapy remedy or any medication that can touch my neck pain once it starts and it drives me absolutely crazy. The only measure of relief I have gotten with my neck is through applying topical capsaicin to it on a daily basis for a couple of months. That seemed to break me out of the cycle of the terrible neck pain (knock on wood) and it's rare that I get it these days. I dread the idea of it coming back though.

Re: Neck pain, delaying our treatment?
My neck almost always hurts worse as part of the prodome. THe problem is I can't tell when to medicate because the span of time between when my neck starts hurting to the head pain starting is so variable. It's annoying because I KNOW the attack is coming but not quite when.
THe right side of my neck has been hurting for almost two weeks now. It's like when you wake up with a crick in your neck. That usually last a couple of days but this just won't let up and two weeks is waaaay to long to have my neck hurt when I turn my head. Bleah!

Re: Neck pain, delaying our treatment?
My problems started with neck pain also. I tried everything - Chiro, acupuncture, lyrica, massage, physio (which made it much worse by the way) and several rounds of cortisone injections. The pain and headaches kept getting worse until I was diagnosed with chronic daily migraine. It turns out some 60% of people with migraines also have neck pain. I thought the neck problems caused the headaches but actually it is the other way around.
While the medications for migraine never worked for me, a plan with supplements (natural progesterone, vitamin D, iodine, magnesium and omega3) is working wonders. Not only are my headaches greatly reduced but my neck pain is completely gone as well. It is amazing.

Re: Neck pain, delaying our treatment?
If I could find a pain medication to treat my daily pain, which runs from my neck to the top of my head.
My life would be so different. Occassionaly a couple of Excedrin will take the edge off it.
Other times they dont touch it, and of course the Triptans just dont reach that far....
Time the clever ones took a closer look at this, and I might add, this is a prevalent symptom with FMS.
And many FMS people have migraine as well.....
