My doctor always stresses that I shouldn't drive if I'm at all impaired by my medications, which is pretty ironic because she knows that I really don't drive at all and thinks that I should get behind the wheel more often, as a means of trying to push myself to function. Yet she still gives me the same lecture every time she writes a prescription!

It is pretty sad but I think the only way to prevent accidents caused my impairment is to outlaw using them while driving period. I can drive perfectly fine while taking a narcotic (they do not make me sleepy at all). Being tired or being in pain is more of a hazard than the pain killer. There is no way to test every individual on how drugs affect them though, so to be on the safe side, it is good to not drive at all. Nobody should be driving period unless they have complete clear focus on their driving, but the majority of us do at times. You don't have to be on drugs or drinking to have your mind somewhere else. It seems very simple. Don't drive unless you are completely alert and focusing on driving period----in a perfect world.
