costochondritis help please
The costo is tending to be rather naughty at the moment and I really need to take some anti-inflamatories.
But having just spent the past 18 months getting my immune system to behave vaguely well and my thyroid to level out a bit, I don't want to take the risk of upsetting it all again.
Any one know of some very gentle way of calming the costo down? Or even better anyone found a way of repairing the damage?
Hope everyone has a good weekend coming up.

Re: costochondritis help please
I have costo. It was bad last week, shooting pains in my ribs/chest wall.
I waited it out, it took 4 days, but just woke up one day and it was better.
I wondered if the heat had made me sleep tense.
I dont have any medication for it Marion.
Mt dr doesn't treat it, sorry.

Re: costochondritis help please
When I had it I was told to wrap my ribs. It definitely helped.
Sorry you are having to deal with this!

I know I'm being lazy in not googling the term, but what is costo-whatever? I've never heard the term before.

Re: costochondritis help please
Marion,
I had this a few years ago and found out that by my gardening and stretching my arms under bushes I got this. The one good thing was I thought I was having a heart attach and when I found out it was this I just shugged it off. I took 800 mg motrin and in four days it was gone. It did come back often until I behaved my self for a year or so.
My doctor wanted to give me a shot of cortizone and I refused.
Try not to stretch your arms and hopefully it will behave.
Good luck to you!

Re: costochondritis help please
Thanks everyone.
Vicki, costo is where the tissue between the ribs becomes torn or damaged.
Mine started after a near miss with pneumona, which in itself can cause inflamation, but being invincible went back to work to soon and resumed stacking heavy displays.
Ten years on I think it might be for keeps.
So to wrap or not to wrap, this is the question. lol

Re: costochondritis help please
I use massage, wraps, and heat when my ribs act up and Aleve (Naproxyn) when it is reaaaalllly painful. I usually have problems when I've been on the computer too long. Something about sitting and staring a the screen for long periods of time is not good for my ribcage. I'm much more aware of when it is startin go act up so I can start alleviating the pain asap.
This is one of my more annoying Fibro complaints. It makes it hard to even inhale. Bleah!
