Ghosts of Happiness Past Empty Ghosts of Happiness Past

Before my beloved Steve died, he purchased several DVD's about lgbt history and other subjects. About a year and a half ago I loaned five of them to our local lgbt community center for the young folks to enjoy on a Saturday night (cheap date!). The movie project did not over well attendance wise, I got rather ill, grieving heavily, and forgot about the DVD's. Last Tuesday I retrieved them.

Wednesday, I was bored and decided to watch one. "Freedom To Marry" was still in its cellophane wrapper - tore it open and popped it in the player. Sat back for another DVD on the lgbt marriage civil rights issue.

this movie was about the marriages occured beginning February 13, 2004, in San Francisco. the opening was a series of scenes ... various couples getting happily hitched at San Francisco's incredibly beautiful City Hall. And then .... and then ...

There was Steve one of the happiest days of his life. There we were on the Grand Staircase in San Francisco's City Hall getting legally married. Amazing. He was so happy, so joyous ... it shone through the images and filled my heart with joy. And boy! I have lost a ton of weight since then! LOL

What a joyous surprise - to see what I had never seen before - we took no photographs, had only our memories. Until now. I watch it over and over again. the movie itself is just OK ... but those seconds of us make my day, my week, my month, my year! In my grief I had almost forgotten how joyously happy we were together. I sit here grinning from ear to ear.

Thought I would share some incredibly good news for a change.

Richard,

Forgive me for not remembering what your spiritual beliefs are. But to me, Steve sent you a surprise gift, knowing what your reaction would be. Beautiful. I think you are the most romantic and poetic man I have ever known. You and Steve are 2 exceptional spirits that found each other, and were, for a time, able to be together in this realm of existence. I believe you will be again, in another realm.

Love,
Chris

How special that was! I'm so glad that you got a video of your and Steve's big moment, especially since you hadn't taken any earlier! My cousin got married at San Francisco's City Hall, and the pictures are really beautiful. He had to rush the wedding because it was just before gay marriages were allowed, and the office was booked for a couple months, so he moved the wedding up a month and did it two days before all the gay couples got to have their weddings.

I'm so happy for you that you got this wonderful surprise!

What a beautiful, wonderful surprise/gift that must have been as you sat there watching your special moment with the love of your life. How truly amazing Richard to take you back to that day where you and Steve were so very happy and so much in love with one another. Nothing else in your life will ever compare to those feelings that you two shared on that very special day and now you have something to watch anytime, anyday. Such a treasure!

I am so happy for you to have this wonderful momento. I know you have these memories in your heart, but now you have them on a screen that you can play over and over again.

Hugs!
