Sounds like good advice to share here:

Anna is going to try Remeron, and it is a med to be concerned about!

Cheryl, Thanks for that info. I am not on an antidepressant right now, but the Seratonin thing is really interesting. I gained weight on Welbutrin, which is supposed to make most "normal "people lose weight! I find chocolate rice cakes from Quaker to be very helpful when I need something sweet, but not too calorie dense. I hope Anna does well on the Remeron.

I'm also on Welbutrin and can't lose weight. Even though I am only doing 2500 calories, have a physical job and hobbies the weight just stays. I can't watch TV for more then an hour before getting restless and do not do any sugar at all. It also affects my memory and concentration real bad. I hate the stuff but without it I go into a very bad dark hole.

I will have to try some of those tips. Thanks for posting them.

Doctors put you on meds that cause weight gain then rag at you to lose some weight. If regular people without MD as their last name do stuff like that we call them confused.

I gained 40lbs on Amitriptylene and no MD ever told me that it would make me gain weight. They just ragged on my posterior and sent me to Obama's "move" classes and that with a bad back.

Hi folks,

I am on Ami and topamax. Have been on Ami about 3 mths now. Think I have gained maybe 2 lbs, but from the stress I've been under the last couple of years, I needed to gain a little weight.

Do any of you know if those two meds might even things out? Is anyone else on both and have you noticed any weight gain.

Thanks for your input Smile

Hugs!

I have the opposite problem. I can't gain weight. Posh Spice is a heavy weight compared to me. The meds and the constant headaches and nausea have been ruining my appetite. I seriously need to gain a couple of kilos.

Avoiding Weight Gain Empty Huffington post interesting about weight gain

I reacted badly to serotonin inducing tablets so didn't notice as had to come off them quickly. Other medications have had undesirable effects though. Am having a battle with beta blockes at the moment. Despit eating only around 1000 calories a day and being active, I am gaining weight. I really don't like this and don't know what to do. I used to eat around 2000 cals a day, same physical routines, no problem only a month ago.

I'm not on anything and cant lose weight. I am 3 stone heavier than I was 10 years ago when the worst of this started.
I dont eat a lot, and not too much crap.

Makes no difference if I eat or not, dont lose anything.

Cant exercise, but that hasnt made it worse...

I dont know why I am carrying this weight and neither does the GP...

Dawn,

I gained 40 lbs while taking the Amitriptyline. It only took a few months. It is a real struggle to get it off.

Yikes, Susan! But if Remeron helped you, it would be worth it?

Anna took her new Remeron two nights ago, and it seemed to be helpful. I had a hard time waking her up yesterday (in the late afternoon). That's how well she slept--all night long and practically all day.

She is asleep right now, and I wouldn't even try and wake her up--from the way she looks. I'm guessing she took it again last night.

She has been so sleep deprived, I think she needs these sleep "comas" right now...

I would agree...happier and less pain would be better.

Anyone else have a Remeron story to tell?

You are sweet Susan. Thanks! However, I am 50 lbs over weight and could loose another 25 lbs after that. I have started (a couple of months ago) walking and have only lost 5 lbs. I guess if I keep it up, in two years I can loose 50 lbs. LOL.

The depression is really getting to me this time around. In the past, I have always been able to beat it. Life really sucks and then you die. My usuall hobbies are just not as helpful as they have been.

Good night all, can't keep my eyes open anymore.
