Floaters?
Just curious. How many have floaters? I always have these when outside. I now always wear sunglasses even when it's not sunny to avoid them. Is this a migraine thing? Or do 'regular' people have them? Anyone know??

Are you near sighted? This is very common with people who are. I have had them for years. I usually don't even notice them.

Hi. I've had floaters for years too, but mainly notice them when I'm out in the sunshine.
I've never linked them to migraines - perhaps a question to ask the optician next time I'm there.

Re: Floaters?
I asked my eye doctor and he said they are common in near sighted people. I brought the subject up a long time ago whether others on this site are near sighted. Since migraines can affect the eyes, I wondered if there was a correlation. That is probably really stretching it.

Re: Floaters?
Ditto to floaters and shortsighted.
Specialist said for him it is hard to distinguish what are floaters and what is migraine aura when I complain that there is so much rubbish in my vision.
If the floaters get big enough they can operate. Scary and I won't go there.
The best "mirage" I had was watching a flock of birds for a good few minutes.
They were soaring up and down, round and round, and I REALLY thought it was birds.
Then they just vanished.
Don't know if it was floaters or migraine aura.
It gets very disconcerting though and anyone else with it has my sympathy.

Re: Floaters?
I get them very very seldom despite I'm near sighted and wear contacts, but I also wear sunglasses most of the time when I'm outdoor because the light, even when it's not sunny, annoys me a lot.

Never, but I am farsighted.
Are they a problem?
Or just annoying? I know my dad had them and my mum, but neither had migraines.

Pen - actually not a problem or annoying unless you choose to focus on them. I almost forgot I had them until the subject was brought up.

Floaters
I'm only slightly near-sighted. I can drive and even watch TV without glasses but have trouble reading signs if I don't wear them. I have a lot of floaters. Most of the time I don't notice them but in the right lighting and when I'm in the wrong mood they can be extremely annoying.
I've read they are an inevitable part of aging, even in far sighted people, as the vitreous humour ( eyeball gel) shrinks with age and the collagens within it solidify into strands. These look like thin threads when you see them as floaters.

I've had them forever. Most annoying in bright light. I can totally relate to "watching the birds". I've done that and then realized those aren't birds!!

Maybe that's what cats are doing
I always thought that when cats just sit staring out into space that they were watching dust motes. But maybe they are really seeing floaters and thinking they are birds ''
