can't sleep... Empty can't sleep...

Well, I can't sleep. Head hurts too much. You would think all this pain would make you sleep. But, no, I have the opposite issue. It makes me stay awake. I've been reading the posts. It's all very disheartening to say the least. People weren't meant to live this way. I wonder if a cure will ever be found. Or, at least, something to ease the suffering. I have my doubts. This issue (migraine) has been around for centuries. No-one has fiqured it out yet. We start to wonder all kinds of things i.e. could it be food additives, vaccinations, allergies, drugs, stress, etc. etc. It's simply what it is I guess. A neurological disorder. Period. I know I've tried everything under the sun to get some relief and nothing has helped. So, now I'm trying butterbur. I don't know what else to do. Wouldn't it be a hoot if this simple little thing was the thing that helped? And this is why we keep going. Maybe, just maybe, it will be the next thing that helps....

If I could figure out what might help the insomnia, I'd share it with everyone who suffered. DH uses Ambien and still has bad nights, and since my neuro's being stupid I'm trying to make it on 1/2 the usual dosage of the preventative that helped both my sleep patterns and my migraines.

I see the neuro Tues, and I hope to improve after that, but I know it's rough when there's nothing to give hope of relief. I hope it gets better for you soon! Sleep (crossing my fingers for both of us tonight)

Hi gailgigi,

I hope you are feeling better. Like you if I have a full blown Migraine there is no way on earth I can sleep. The sooner I give up trying the better. I had one the night before last, my first one in about three weeks, but staying in bed trying to sleep just made matters worse so at 4am I got up, and did what I could, very slowly. After it passed it left my head feeling like my brain was bruised, even going over bumps in the car jolted the brain, not nice. I am dreading this may come back to the other side of my head today, this is often the case with me.

If I can today I will make up my sleep with a power nap, 20 mins can be all is needed,

can't sleep... Empty I know how it feels .....

Oh dear .... I know exactly what you are going through. You are tossing and turning, no painkiller can touch the pain and you are in tears because of the merciless onslaught of pain and nausea.

What i have been doing in the past couple of years, was to take an Imigran (no matter at what stage of the migraine attack) together with half a 10mg Amitryptilene (so 5mg ... tiny dosage). I am not taking Amitryptilene as a preventative every day, because I would be asleep 24/7. I only keep them for emergencies when all else fails (usually when I have my period). The combo of Imigran/Amitryp. induces a deep, long and curative sleep. Also I find when used this way the body dosn't get used to the effects of A.

Good luck and I hope you will feel better soon.

Love

P.

I cant sleep with them either. I dont know how anyone can.
The lie in a darkened room is a joke to me.
I have trouble keeping still, even though it makes me hurt more to move.

I take Passiflora or Valerian.
Herbal, mild and not great, but they don't interact with anything and i am so sensitive.
It doesnt necessarily get me to sleep and it is kinda slow, BUT I do find if I can doze off they can keep me asleep.

My other thing is what my dad always used to give me, honey in warm milk.
Will work, but if I have more than two nights, it tends not to.

Isnt it cruel, sleep should be the one sanctuary, and we either cant get there,
or like me, dread waking the next morning with another day of pain.

Hi Pen: I have headache/migraine 24/7. I have 3 different types of headpain. Full blown migraine to searing pain through the forehead to strangling type pain around head. It's hell. I've had one appointment with pain doctor. Another one this Wednesday. No prescription pain medication.

Gail, forgive me I cant follow everyone. Have you been on anti depressants at all?

I have several pains as well.
I have full blown migraine which almost always comes on in the night. Needs Triptan, nothing else helps.
I have what might be migraine, but can resolve with OTC or sometimes time. Can waste Triptan non it.
I have constant pain from my neck to top of my head, in my teeth, can get anywhere.

The latter two I try to manage and have not taken anything for them in the last 6 days.
The Migraine. Had 3 last week, and probably one tomorrow. We'll see.
