Need help with mom
I know I've not posted on a while, but i've been reading. I'm still dealing with the se migraine I've had since August and while I'm trying to juggle my health, my jobs, my marriage, my home and my life, I'm also trying to handle my mom. My pain got worse, so I missed a few days of work (I work for my parents in one of my jobs) and my mom is not happy with my doctor because she thinks I should have gotten better treatment.
My doctor upped my Topamax to 150 mg twice a day. I take a vitamin B complex pill and Slow mag, too, along with 20 mg Nortriptyline. I use Stadol almost every day for the pain - I'm up to (brace yourself) four sprays to dull the pain. I can use Relpax or Fioricet, but they don't help, so I don't.
So my question to you all is this: do I continue to try with this neurologist that I trust but mom doesn't or do I start all over? I think I know what to do, but need to know it's not just me.

triptans?
have you tried them all, rachel? there are seven, you know. most people find that one or two of them work well, and the rest don't. that's how it is w/me, so i'm asking if you've given all of them a good ol' college try........
i tend to agree with your mom, that you should seek another opinion. or two or three. no two neurologists will ever agree on much, and you might find a whole different approach with a new one.
i know i've seen at least 6 neuros through my 40-year migraine adventure, and most are worthless. they have THE hugest egos of any doctors. dianne

I think a second opinion is a good idea. You don't have to cut loose the current nuero in order to seek a 2nd opinion, right? You can even tell your nuero you are getting a 2nd opinion. If he (or she) can't handle that, then that tells you something right there, right?
