Sunglasses
I posted several weeks ago asking for recommendations on sunglasses that are darker and provide more protection from the sun and snow.
My husband's cousin suggested welding glasses. We went to a welding supply company where my younger son lives, and I tried several on.
The ones that worked best have a green lens that renders the environment to black and white (#5), but they block the glare and light better than anything I've tried. They wrap around to the sides to protect peripherally and fit close to the head so light doesn't sneak in from any direction (top, bottom, sides). They are pretty similar to regular sunglasses so you don't feel like you're wearing "welding" glasses and they don't look too dorky.
Because of the color blocking green lenses, I would not recommend these if you are driving. You wouldn't be able to differentiate stop lights (our red pickup looked black to me).
The best part....they were only $10 US and come with a strap so you can let them hang around your neck when you need to remove them to see indoors. They're also not too tight so they press on the temporal area (sometimes sunglasses do that to me and trigger a migraine). Oh, and they provide 99.9% UV protection and meet ANSI Z87.1+.
The brand is Nemesis Safety Eyewear (Nemesis IRUV 5.0 Safetyglasses) and distributed by Jackson Safety (Fenton, MO) www.jacksonsafety.com.
I hope others can benefit from this if you suffer from severe photosensitivity.
