Darker Sunglasses

Post  tecky on Mon Jan 11, 2010 6:07 am

We've got more snow on the ground than we have for several years, and the beautiful sunshine reflecting off that snow is killing my eyes. My sunglasses temper it a bit, but they just don't seem dark enough (they're polarized and UVA/UVB rated).

Does anyone know a good source for darker sunglasses that wrap around so the eyes are protected from the sides and top?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

Last year I googled 'Jamie Heineman's sunglasses' (He's the hairless gent from Mythbusters). He has very dark, shielded sunglasses that just scream photophobic migrainer to me. I remember the price was about $80, which didn't seem bad for good sunglasses, but I need RX sunglasses, so it was a no go for me.

I got some from REI, also found them online, they are "Julbo", style Nomad, and they are darker than the standard sunglasses, darker than any others I have found - short of welding glasses! I laugh because they are for Arctic expeditions, and I live in SoCal. I love them, I go nowhere without them. Cost was between $60 and $80.

Thanks so much, Sara79 and Renee. I will look into the ones you suggested.

I was actually going to say something about welders glasses, Renee. The bright sunshine here reflecting off the snow feels like I'm in the Arctic (LOL).

Do you think the optic nerve sensitivity to light will ever get any better?

Thanks so much for your suggestions.

These are the ones I use, but I need to have something that will fit over my prescription lenses. maybe they'll work for you as well.

Thanks, Brenda. I'll check them out. At least they're a little more affordable.
