This brought a smile to my face. One of my friends is the "intelligent reader" who commented on this doctor's previous post. He mentioned it in this post:

He wrote a good post, but when your child is very sick and has suffered for many years, you tend not to worry about the risks of testing. You just want your child better! That is our perspective.

I agree, Cheryl. This is especially true when the symptoms are so bad that they interfere with life, not only for the child but also his/her parents.

I sometimes shudder to think of all the radiation (x-rays) my son received through the years for severe scoliosis, but it was necessary to ascertain whether it was worsening to the point of interfering with breathing and other normal bodily functions.

My friend said in an email to me that she loves blood tests, EEG's, and MRI's. No big worries there, and they can reveal quite a lot of useful information.

Interesting--his comment about the patient being in charge. I'm not sure we feel that way very often. LOL.
