Who Said This?
I am trying to guess who said this. I know it was not Pat Robertson or Dr. Dobson or either Presidents Bushes or any President or even the Westboro church or Peter LaBarbera. Can you guess?
"The national government will maintain and defend the foundations on which the power of our nation rests. It will offer strong protection to Christianity as the very basis of our collective morality. Today Christians stand at the head of our country. We want to fill our culture again with the Christian spirit. We want to burn out all the recent immoral developments in literature, in the theatre, and in the press-- in short, we want to burn out the poison of immorality which has entered into our whole life and culture as a result of liberal excess during the past years."

Re: Who Said This?
My guess is Hitler. Don't know where he stood on Christianity but he was real big on "liberal" book burning.

Re: Who Said This?
I doubt it was Der Fuhrer. The Nazi party did not embrace Christianity, especially the SS which was more quasi-pagan.

Yeah maybe, Marc. But I think he was at least putting on the appearance of supporting the Christian Church to get more regular Germans to go along with him. We'll see who the quote actually belongs to.

Wouldn't surprise me. Mr. Hitler pandered to just about every crowd, but imprisoned them after he really got rolling. Christianity was clamped down on (especially vocal relgious leaders), however in the Wehrmacht (armed forces) it was allowed, with chaplains. The SS again, had their own gig.
German Christians are divided mostly between Catholics (south) and Protestants (north, big chunk of that segment is Lutheran).

Re: Who Said This?
My guess would be he said it in the early or mid 1930's when he was gathering his forces.

Re: Who Said This?
The quote is by Adolph Hitler in the beginning of his elected power - circa 1933.
Another interesting is that the Vatican - so quick recently to excommunicate any public dissenters - never excommunicated Hitler. An interestingand differnt time in the world.
What scares ME is how similar this quote is to what many modern day leaders in the USA say. It could be from yesterday's newspapers. Scary.

Re: Who Said This?
That is, indeed, very frightening.

Scary it is. My daughter and I were just talking about the intolerance that you see so often disguised as religious thinking. It's scary how many people you hear spouting stuff that if Jesus was here to hear them, would be appalled at the perversion of his message.
The Jesus I read about in the New Testament was hanging out with the outcasts of his day and talking about treating each other well and sharing our lives. I mean look a the miracles and the parables. Where was Jesus saying throw them out, exclude them? I thought he was saying, forgive, accept, share.... The only time I read anything about Jesus excluding anyone was when he threw the money lenders out of the Temple and the message there is don't look at your religion as a way to make money.
How did that message get turned into an exclusionary viewpoint? I think some organizations need to go back to the basics and look at what their role model was really saying. I apologize if I offend anyone with my views, but this is how I see it.

Well said, Alli. In the end, He will be the judge, not any of us.

Re: Who Said This?
I agree whole heartedly, Alli. That is the primary reason I can't consolidate my spiritual beliefs to those of organized religion.
