Bio-Identical Hormones? Empty Bio-Identical Hormones?

Post  Brenda L. Wed Jul 02, 2014 1:21 pm

Anyone tried bio-identical hormones for migraine? Did they help?

How expensive are they? I have tried bio-identicals and various supplements. Didn't seem to help me. Maybe wasn't on them long enough? It all got so expensive that I had to give then up.

I cannot remember the cost of bio-identicals now. It involved a lot of special doctor's visits, which also put it out of my price range. And some docs said I shouldn't take bio-identical hormones because I've had history of breast cancer at young age.

I know Suzanne Somers takes bio-identical hormones and had breast cancer. It is controversial, but I make my own decisions. It's hard to convince doctors otherwise, though. Suzanne got breast cancer at about age 50, if I recall. I got breast cancer in mid-30s, which is supposed to be very aggressive type of breast cancer. That freaks doctors out and they don't want to prescribe bio-identical hormones to me. I cannot afford to jet to Europe to get exotic meds.

For those who have taken bio-identical hormones, did they help your migraines? How long did you take them for? If currently taking them, how long have you been on them?

Thanks for any advice or opinions!

Brenda,

Bio identical progesterone has worked very well for me. I went from 80% migraine days to 20%.

I used to be able to get them online, but that doctor can no longer do that. So now I see a naturopath who has been very good. He does extensive blood work to measure exact hormone levels and then has prescribed all kinds of natural supplements and hormones. It took about 3 months for everything to level out in my system.

Yes it is expensive. I've paid about $1500 in testing and that much more for about 3-4 months worth of supplements. But it is the only thing that has worked for me and keeps me functioning and able to work, so I think it's worth it.

But if you have had cancer I would definitely recommend talking to your doctor first. I know my friend who had breast cancer was told not to take any hormone supplements due to the type of cancer she had.

The bio identical hormones made me worse. I had the same effect from them as synthetic hormones. I tried them several different times & not only did my migraines get worse I had partial seizures.
