I have had migraines for ever. Finally after seeing numerous Dr’s I found a CNP (Certified Nurse Practitioner) who would work with me. I now have been headache free (except for 2-3 when I was under extreme stress)for over 6 months. I take 50 mg Amitriptyline once a day, 5mg Valium twice a day and Neurontin 60 mg twice a day. I have tried everything including Botox. But my CNP was willing to work with me to try combinations od medications to come up with something that works. I highly recommend CNP’s they actually care about you. it is so nice to have my life back. I know all you migraine suffers can understand that.

Diana, I am happy for you that you finally found a relief from pain.
However, I was concerned to see that you have been prescribed Valium, since Valium is strongly addictive and incredibly difficult to get off.

So, I wonder if yo could talk to the nurse and try to find some other alternative, so you are not faced with another serious problem at some later date.

Very Happy Very Happy That is GREAT news Diana!

I am on gabipentin (similar to neurotin), along with Effexor (anti depressant) and Prozazin (to Lessen nightmares) and Klonipin. I take Ferocet for break throughs, but the problem is that I have too many break throughs for it to be effective and not cause rebound head aches. I was on a medication from Neuro about a year ago, but I go to the VA, and some of their speciality clinics are too swamped to take effective care of everyone. I have a new appointment with my psych doc (Bipolar w/PTSD) and I think that I can get a new script for that...

Either way- I am happy to hear that there may be a medication combo out there that will work with me, so long as I work on my stress level, and my diet.

Again, I am SO SO glad!
