I've been watching one called Telcagepant on Mayo Clinic page. Its still in testing stage.Think it will hit the market later this year. Its not a tripan. So many of us can't use those.Having very good results in human tests.Keep your fingers crossed, may be help yet,

My neuro told me last visit in December that the most promising new drug on the migriane front had failed the drug testing stage ( I didn't ask the name).

Re: New Migraine drug
Telcagepant was doing well in clinical trials as an abortive. Then, they decided to do trails to see if it could be a preventive. Unfortunately, some of the patients taking it daily developed problems with liver enzymes. So, trials using it as a daily preventive have been halted. They may still continue the abortive trials since there didn't seem to be any problem there.

That sounds kind of like a risky medication.
It may be testing well as an abortive, and showing problems as a preventative, which is taken every day, but my concern with that data is that many migraineurs take their abortives daily or nearly daily because they suffer nearly every day.
That would raise my concern with the liver enzyme problems the tests might be showing on this medication.
Something to keep in mind.

Re: New Migraine drug
On the other hand, it's probably less dangerous than ergotamine and valproate.
I think the real issue was from the shock value, since the liver problems turned up for the first time in humans. Liver toxicity that doesn't show up in animal tests means humans are special, which means fatal liver failure is a real possibility.
