migraines and thyroid??? Empty migraines and thyroid???

Just wonder if anybody knows anything about this. If there could be a connection..

I am going to a dr. on March 16 to have mine checked because I have been noticing some swelling in the area of my collarbone. When I told the nurse on the phone she said, yes, you need to come in here.

I can't wait to go and see if it could be causing the migs......

Just wondered if anyone knew anything? Question

migraines and thyroid??? Empty Migraines & Thyroid

Hi Sherri,
I'd like to offer a little information about thyroid that may help.

Lab testing for thyroid issues is extremely important because it can provide a lot of information.

The problem is that most docs are pretty narrow minded and are thinking hypothyroidism which just isn't enough.

The thyroid produces two hormones. One is called Thyroxine (T4) and the other is Tri-iodothyronine (T3). Thyroxine doesn't do much as far as improving our energy or our metabolism, it's T3 that is the activating thyroid hormone.

Normally when thyroid hormones are low then TSH or Thyroid Stimulating Hormone, produced by a gland in our brain, will increase, trying to stimulate our thyroid to make more hormones.

The typical pattern for hypothyroidism is high TSH and low T4. The problem with most docs is that TSH may be on the high side but T4 may be low but still in the lab's normal reference range. With these results your doc may say that you are fine, that you don't have a thyroid problem even though many women have low thyroid hormone symptoms because of low thyroid hormones.

Not until T4 falls below this reference range will the diagnosis of hypothyroidism be given. This is a shame because if a woman can improve T4 then she'll feel a lot better.

If the thyroid does not get the nutrients it needs to make its hormones then thyroid hormone levels will remain low no matter how much TSH is increased. Those nutrients are iodide, selenium, zinc and iron.

Also, the most common cause of low thyroid hormones, hypothyroidism and swelling of the thyroid (inflammation) is Hashimoto's. This can be checked through two lab tests. One is TPO (Thyroperoxidase) antibodies and Anti-thyroglobulin (TGA) antibodies. I suggest having these done. You can simply tell a little fib to the doc and say that your mother has Hashimoto's. This is one way to get these tests. If it comes back positive go to my site to watch a series of videos on this subject... hopeforhashimotos.com.

I wish you all the best...

Hi

I have Graves Disease. Hyperthyroid. Today it is in remission, but for the 3 years that it was running rampart, I didn't have a significant change in my migraines in frequency of occurances, or depth of pain. (I keep a migraine log).

For myself, I ruled out thyroid as a cause.

All the best to you.

And I have Multi-Nodular Goiter.

Some enlarged thyroids are caused by goiter.

There are many differant things that can go wrong with a thyroid.
