Here is an article warning about taking mega-doses of Vitamin D:

Some say yes and some say no it's not good for you.

You know I have tried Vit. D twice now and every time I get a horrible migriane. One that the Lortab does not even touch. It is bad. Does anyone else have this problem with Vit D?

My mother who is 84 has to take two a day and she also gets migrianes but it does not effect her like it does me.

vit d is an oil soluble vit so any excess is not secreted from the body in the urine unlike water soluble vits but stored in the liver thats why high doses are not good for you.

It depends on whether you use the natural or the synthetic forms.

The synthetic form of Vitamin D is highly toxic.

The natural form of Vitamin D has been proven to be very safe, even in mega-doses.

Vitamin D appears to give me migraines also and I was astonished to find that others here could take high doses with no problems.

I can't take calcium either, though I probably need it.

Getting calcium from milk products does not seem to bother me as much.

I am taking Jamieson brand, and I seem to have no problem with it.

I have no choice as I live on West Coast and we have little of sun, and anyway I stay home a lot ( a whole lot)
so I am for sure Vit D deficient quickly.
My daughter recent blood check showed she is already Vit D insufficient after summer, so we both take it on regular basis
a 1000 IU a day.

I also take it with Mag (also Jamieson ) 300mg daily and Calcium 200mg.

it take 1 tab of 50,000IU of Vitamin D (25 OH D) a week due to Vit. D Deficiency. it's took about 1.5 years to hit the low end of the normal spectrum. even now, i'm on the low side.

there are arguments about this pro/con. i really haven't noticed really much if any difference taking the supplements.

That's exactly the dose I was prescribed, Marc. I didn't notice any difference and quit taking it after 6 months.

yeah para, i don't see really any difference, but it at least makes one of my lab values look good. i know it will drop back to abnormal over time if i stop. that can lead to bone problems and other junk....so, i just stay with it. what's another prescription.........sigh.
