Trojan virus and Downloader
I use a high end Norton virus detection program. I have gotten several versions of two viruses over the past three months. The last one was not detected and caused me some grief. They are downloaded by going to links or opening email or video clips. They manifest themselves by noticeably slowing down your computer. I may have gotten it from three sources, one of them here.
Please update your virus detection programs and run them to make sure you do not have a sick computer.

Re: Trojan virus and Downloader
Hal,
I use Norton also and have had probs with the same viruses. I also have Microsoft Security Essentials on this computer and it actually was able to get rid of it after Norton failed.
I'm thinking it may have come from this site, as well; especially since we both have had probls.

Thanks, Becky. That info is good to know. I have gone to several links here and some may have been infected. It is hard to tell, unless you are a good computer forensic slooth. I guess I need a second anti-virus program.

I use AVG free, and so far not one has passed it.
You can also do an extra online check with someone like Symantec just to be sure.
Also run Windows Defender once a week or so...
I do post links, but I check them first.
I think links from those of us we know should be okay.

I agree with Pen on the links...all of you who have posted ahead of me, I'd have no problem following a link in your post. I've 'seen' you all here enough to know you'd never intentionally post a scuzzy link. It's the names I've never seen here before, with strange links in the signature that concern me.
I will however mention that I don't follow blind links from anywhere, which is where the only info the poster puts up is...'New research on migraines' follow link to article. Even a sentence or two copied and pasted lets me decide if its worth following.

As a rule, I don't follow links from persons I do not know, especially the trolls. That's why I was surprised to have gotten these viruses.?????

Re: Trojan virus and Downloader
It's not just the "bad guys" who trip us up with viruses and other malware. You can sometimes inadvertently get them from trusted friends and websites. It can be very innocent. Your best friend can send you a nasty without knowing s/he's sending it to you.
We have to be constantly vigilant and even the most savvy and careful person gets nailed occasionally. I love computers but sometimes I get so tired of fighting the crap that I turn everything off and do something that doesn't require electronics or electricity.

I got tired of fighting them and got a Mac. Yes, I know they are still out there but not nearly as plentiful.

Wait a minute Hal, wasn' t it you just telling me that anything not migraine related should not be discussed on this site? WTF. I guess it doesn't apply to you huh?

This is the miscellaneous, the place to discuss non migraine topics.
I dont know what you think Hal meant, but that wasnt it...
Oh and the same forum rules apply to us all.
I am not sure what your point is, sorry.

Pen,
He and Hal got into it in another thread that has been deleted. It was one that turned into a bit of a flame war over a controversial topic.
usedtobeme - Pen is right. This is the miscellaneous side that is open for various discussions. However, the moderator has asked that we stay away from controversial topics.

Pen,
Ignore this guy. He obviously has a problem, a foul mouth and social imaturity and is only trying to start another war. He lies. I believe that he may be one of those that "left", only to show up as a trouble maker. His posts prove my point over and over. People like this either need to grow up or go away. Enough said.

Re: Trojan virus and Downloader
i'm not a trouble maker Hal, just pointing out your double standards. you told me that I was not allowed to discuss anything not migraione related because this was a migraine only site. it only makes sense to me that epoepl are free to discuss other things on a misc thread, but it was you that told me i wasn't allowed to. i guess that only applies when its a subject you agree on hey? ps i have not called you any names but you insist on calling me names. im not sure its me who needs to grow up.

Re: Trojan virus and Downloader
pen, kindly, that is exactly what Hal meant. he told me in no uncertain terms that anything not migraine related has no place on a migraine site and he made his comment while on a topic in the misc section (i don;t know where that post went it seems to be missing). i am really not a trouble maker even though my post was one that started trouble, my meaning was to point out that there were very distint double standards. not menat to offend, but people should not go around threatening other people to shut up when they are going on and on about freedom of speech.

Okay, Okay! You've made your point. We've stated that non-migraine topics are allowed here. Now grab your dead horse and bury it already.
