Anyone tried Wellbutrin?
I ran across something about Wellbutrin that got me thinking. According to my research it can help with migraines. Check. It helps some people quit smoking. Check. I've been struggling a little with depression. Check. And today I came across info that some people lose weight. Check and check.
It sounds to me that with this I wouldn't just be getting a two-fer, I'd be getting a four-fer. That would be bang for my buck.
Has anyone had experience with this? I am somewhat hesitant since I had such a nightmarish experience with other pysch. medications, but this time around I have a Dr. I TRUST.

Wellbutrin worked really well for me for my depression, but unfortunately did nothing for my migraines or my weight! Boo!

Re: Anyone tried Wellbutrin?
I tried it formy migraines and depression a while back. I got to the point where it started to lose efficacy so I got off it. But from what I remember, it worked when I started it. It did nothing for my weight I'll tell you that. But it did help for quite a while.

Re: Anyone tried Wellbutrin?
I was on a lower dosage for depression a few years ago. It really helped. I took myself off when I felt I didn't need it anymore. The new neurologi9st that I'm seeing put me back on a higher dosage to help prevent migraines. I think it's working. I seem to be having less severe migraines. I'm still in the early stages (usually takes me up to 6 weeks to see benefit from preventives) but I'm hopeful. She also put me on magnesium, vitamin B2, and Butterburr for preventives, so I don't know which is helping or if it's the combo. Wellbutrin is also the only antidepressant that I didn't have ohter side effects with. It didn't make me feel loopy or out of it at all like the Lexapro did when I tried it.

wellbutrin
Wellbutrin increased my anxiety and migraines, so I have come off of it for now.

Re: Anyone tried Wellbutrin?
Weight loss is not a common side effect of Wellbutrin and is likely only related to the nausea

Hey Brenda, that is the same supplement mix my specialist has me on, only she also adds coenzyme q10. How long have you been on it? I'm only at about a month so far.

coq10 is a cool thing to take for a lot of things, but it is an expensive vitamin.
If anyone is interested in trying it, go purchase it at BJ's or Costco if you have a
membership.
I took it daily for metabolism, heart health and migraines. It was cheapest there and
i'm a scrooge about money. Also, it didn't help with my migraines, although I hope
it helps everyone else!
Good luck!

Re: Anyone tried Wellbutrin?
Wellbutrin(buproprion) is primarily norepinephrine, no increase in serotonin, so...it is better for depression than for anxiety or migraines. Advantages include relatively little sedation or weight gain, and less sexual side effects. However, any med that increases norepinephrine may cause anxiety, insomnia, and may decrease appetite. Despite this, for some people Wellbutrin does help anxiety. Larry Robbins,M.D. http://www.headachedrugs.com

Re: Anyone tried Wellbutrin?
Milo.... I've been on that regimen for about a month also. I seem to be a little better. Of course the hormonal migraine hit. I'm in the 3rd straight day of that and out of the triptan and nubain allotment until Wednesday. My neuro (who I've seen twice) is out on medical leave having her hip replaced, so I can't even call and ask what to do. Just waiting it out, I guess.
Dr. Robbins.... Thank you for the information. Unfortunately, I was unable to use the cyclic antidepressants for migraines because they threw my heart rate up to 180-200. I've tried the Depakote treatment. It didn't work, and made me gain weight and suffer hair loss. I was on Topamax until I developed a kidney stone and was taken off of that. I'm left to cross my fingers with my new plan of attack. LOL

Re: Anyone tried Wellbutrin?
Charlotte, I think the combo of Welbutrin and Inderal is working for me. I have never found a single med that helped. I have been on both for several years. However, i have also had ongoing treatment for Lyme disease, so I cant say for sure it is working!

Wellbutrin
Hi,
I just did a 'search' for wellbutrin, and am glad to have found that there has already been a discussion about it over here.
I was put on it last week, and just picked up my prescription.
Now, after all the internet browsing I have done, including 'askapatient.com', it has been mentioned over and over that the generic wellbutrin XL is NOT like the name brand.
Of course my doc prescribed the actual wellbutrin XL, but I was given Bupropion HCL XL instead.
There is A LOT of research online from respectable labs that this is one of the cases in which the generic is NOT equal to the brand name, as we have personally found in some migraine meds.
I will give it a fair chance. I like that my doc told me that many people DO lose weight from it, and that it will give me energy, which I need badly! I do have low blood pressure, so I shouldn't experience problems with the med. I'm just concerned that I may give up a GOOD drug for me when the issue is really the generic, not the Wellbutrin. Just call me 'Guinea'...this has been my life the past 4 years. Actually 12! I know you all understand!

Re: Anyone tried Wellbutrin?
I took the generic, for mild depression when my son was about 3 or so. It helped me, lost weight and no sexual side effects. Stopped it after 2yrs I think, was easy to come off of, had no anxiety issues.
We are all so different......so I wish you well on it if you Dr. decides it's a good try for you.
