Some red cedar projects
Elevated 6' covered bird feeder with a double bird house "condo" on top. This was an anniversary for my wife the "bird lady". The house roof comes off to clean out any previous nests.

Hamster hut for my daughter's hamster. It's inside his large wire cage.

Bird house I made to donate to my daughter's school fund raising auction.

Splitting the mini cedar shakes for the roof takes more time then all the rest of the construction does. But I think it gives it more character and a more rustic look.
So I guess now that I have been orde......err asked to make a owl box it will also have to be red cedar.

Holy Smokes!!!!! My hubby can't even pound a nail straight. Your wife is a lucky woman.
When we were little, our cat had an outside house just like the dog.
My sister and I painted on it "Ye Olde Cat House"
We didn't find out until we were much older why my folks and their friends thought it was so hysterical. We just though we were being quite sophisticated and veddy, veddy English.

I'm guessing mom and dad just let it be for the laughs?
Thanks for the feedback. I always encourage everyone to get involved in a hobby or craft. It's helps me to de-stress and relax. Video and computer games do not have a finished product and do not give you the same satisfaction.
I mostly do metal working and custom knife building but I finally got my wood shop finished a couple years ago. Now I can have two smaller messes instead of one big one.
Always having a project (or three) going helped me get through the many horrid bad mig attacks. Knowing that as soon as it passes I will be back doing something fun again. And most importantly my wonderful wife is very supportive of my hobbies. I know too many guys that don't have that support for anything that might make noise or messes. And a few of them who should never touch anything that has sharp blades or teeth.
For those of you on FaceBook I have most of my stuff in a mini gallery there.
I can't get it to link but here is the URL.

Re: Some red cedar projects
Oh yes, mom and Dad kept it up for years, even after we figured out what it meant and begged them to repaint it. But, by the college years we thought it was funny too.
I've always wanted to make furniture. I used to do a lot of refinishing but can't any more because of fumes. I thought if I could make it, hubby could stain and finish it for me. Every year I look at our community college schedule for furniture making classes but no luck.

Re: Some red cedar projects
Thanks! I wish cedar was not so expensive. That elevated feeder has $140 worth of it with only a 10"x12" scrap left over.
I have a lot of cedar chunks in my wood shed and it is actually worth milling it into to small lumber chunks now. There are hardwoods from the Amazon that are cheaper to buy that are imported 3000 miles. Cedar grows like a weed here in the Pacific Northwest.
