are migraines like hang overs?
I was watching "Food Detectives" and they were doing hangovers. They listed the symptoms of a hangover as:
Extreme headache
nausea/vomiting
extreme sensitivity to light and noise
fatigue
vertigo
"mush" brain
tremors
thirst
Except for "thirst", that sounds like one of my migraines minus the aura and other neurological stuff (which I find worst than the actual migraine!)
But I've never had a hangover. Are the qualitatively or quantitatively like a migraine? If so, when someone asks me what a migraine is like I could say "like a really bad hangover".

I've had hang overs in my younger days. You feel pretty crappy, but they are no where near as bad as a migraine. A migraine is a hangover times 10.

Totally agree that it's ten times worse, although the symptoms for me were very similar too. For me, a hangover felt like my brain had turned into a dry sponge. Furry tongue was always present, and the lethargy that you get after food poisoning (from draining all those nutrients) as opposed to that zombie feeling of a migraine. I've been off alcohol for three years after I noticed that I was more likely to get a migraine *with* a hangover. The two together are awful.
I think the connection is that vitamin B can be drawn out of the body for those with hormonal migraines, when the oestrogen levels fall (or something like that).

I've often wondered the same thing. I've often said it's like I get a hangover with no fun before it. Never had a drink in my life, so it's good to see the comparison from someone who's been there.

I think they can be like migraines.
My monster migraines are worse than any hangover though... but I have lasting effects like a hangover for days!

They are alike, but the pain of a migraine is usually worst.

Re: are migraines like hang overs?
migraines are definately like hangovers, at least for me. I often say I feel like I have the worst hangover ever without the pleasure of actually having consumed alcohol....!
However I have no idea whether my 'hangovers' I experienced all through my twenties were actually 'migraine' as I know now that I am very sensitive to alcohol and have to avoid it at all costs its one of my worst triggers.
Maybe that would explain why my friends would get a mild headache and feel a little sick after a heavy night and I would be bedridden and in pain for 3 days lol....

However, with a hangover, I knew that by the end of the dayor the next day, I would be feeling much better.
