How to un-complicate Xmas. Hints...Please!! Empty How to un-complicate Xmas. Hints...Please!!

I'm at home with a vomitting M. The trip to the vet last night threw off my sleep schedule and added worries about the health of my canine baby, plus worries about money since I'm trying to save up for my son's wedding and our first (mine & hubby's) real vacation in fifteen years.

I try not to leave work anymore with m's...a higher up at work told me I had to "toughen up" several months ago. But today the same higher up was the one who told me to go home. Since I no longer mention my M's at work, nor did I say anything about throwing up, I must have really looked like cr**. pale

I did break down and call my neuro about getting some Stadol. I haven't used it for years, because I was finding that I was enjoying the "woo hoo" feeling it gave me. I wanted to head that one off at the pass.

But, it would be nice to get through the holiday season without having to leave 45 minutes after I get there. Plus, the family Christmas Eve dinner is at my house this year, so it would be kinda tough to leave. Since I'm not a very good cook I get stressed about it. If I had the extra money (back to the money frustration) I would hire a friend of mine who's a caterer.

Plus, with the Stadol I don't have to worry about throwing it right back up, or running out the other end (sometimes M's do that to me).

My neuro is on vacation this week (of course), so I'm not sure if who ever is covering him will call the Stadol in since it's been a couple of years since I've had it. Guess I'll find out Monday.

I am learning though. I took the week before Christmas off, and arranged to have payroll done early so I don't have to go in at all. That will help with my stress level next week.

Any other suggestions on how to un-complicate Christmas? I did tell my son that we made special arrangements for Santa to come to our house on Christmas Eve, and he bought it, so I don't have to get up at 4:00 am Christmas Day.

Thanks,

Charlotte

Wow! The neuro's office just called (within three hours of me calling them!), and they're calling the Stadol in. So, step 2 of the plan is in play.

Have you started your wrapping yet?
I know that I always wait until the very last moment for everything,
especially wrapping since I hate it. Last year though, for my baby's first Christmas,
I wrapped three or so gifts every night. I was done a couple days before Christmas
for the first time ever!
It definitely took a bit of stress away.

Sorry to hear your having a tough time. I hope things start looking up soon, especially
since Lilly is feeling better now. Get some sleep and relax, just keep thinking
about the lovely vacation you will soon be enjoying with your husband!!

Since you're hosting Christmas Eve dinner this year, have you thought about making it a pot luck. You cook the main dish and have everyone else bring sides and dessert? A lot of people really enjoy doing that, they like to help out. If you don't want to do that or don't think anybody would cooperate, I'd suggest you make everything ahead of time that you can. I used to do this when we had a huge Christmas dinner party every year. I cooked dinner for up to 100 people single handedly. Believe me, anything that could be made earlier in the week was. I baked dessert, made dressing, cranberry sauce, etc. all through the week leading up the party.

The idea of wrapping a few gifts a night is also a good one. It seems far less daunting to say, I have to wrap 5 gifts tonight than... I have to wrap 25.

Lastly, delegate, delegate, delegate.... get anyone to help you that you can. Maybe you could barter something with your caterer friend. You buy the food, have her prepare at least some of it, and then you do something for her in exchange.

Just a few thoughts off the top of my head.

I just talked to my girlfriend and she is available to do it, and will let me pay for it later in January (I'll have to pay her right away for the food, but I would have had to do that anyway).

My neck and shoulders are starting to feel relieved.

Hubby does the floors for me so I would just have to dust, clean the bathrooms, set the table, and little things like that. I think I can manage to do that in the three days I have off. Rolling Eyes

Charlotte - I'm jealous. My neuro still won't let me have Stadol. Enjoy, but not too much.

I know you've got everything worked out already, but I'll just throw in my suggestion.

As an alternative to the usual Christmas or Christmas Eve fare, I like to make one or two huge pans of lasagna. It can easily be made ahead of time and frozen. On the day of the dinner just pop in the oven and bake.

The lasagna aroma throughout the house smells great.

Glad your friend was able to help out. What a lifesaver!

Take care, and I hope you have an enjoyable, relaxing holiday with friends and family....pain-free.

I'm glad you were able to get the Stadol. You obviously are responsible as far as not becoming dependent. I wish
more neuros would realize that not all of us become dependent on a drug just because some people do. I've never had Stadol, but it would be nice to have something around that is going to for sure help out for those few occasions that come along. If they were to experience the pain, I bet they would be a lot more sympathetic for patients that are responsible with drugs.

Glad you were able to get the Stadol as well. It's been my life saver too. I understand what you mean about the "whoo hoo" feeling. My first nuero prescribed way too high a dosage of it for me, and I got way too used to it - i needed a higher dose for it work, and it the meantime, got way to used to that "whoo hoo". I got off it, and tried a lot of other stuff - and 2 other dr.'s - and now my current nuero has me on a much more reasonable routine. I use the Stadol sparingly and it works as it should. Tramadol and Imitrex are my #1 and #2 go-to medications for my migraines, and Stadol is my "one-step-before-the-ER" rescue med.

I can see where doing Christmas would stress you out. I'm glad you got your friend to do the food. What about paper plates? That way you wouldn't have to do the dishes.

We do dinner here at my house for Christmas Eve, and at my grandparents' for Christmas morning, and my parents' Christmas evening. My mom cooks dinner, and the other 2 meals are potlucks. It's a lot of cooking. All for large groups of people. I could not handle it if it wasn't potluck. My mom decided this year to get the Honeybaked Ham store to do the food for the meal on Christmas Day. That's an option too for those of us who don't want or aren't able to cook a large meal.

Alot of supermarkets now have full meals you can order ahead of time too, complete with sides.
