I knew it was going to happen Empty I knew it was going to happen

Post  02R96 Wed Mar 17, 2010 1:25 pm

I got fired from my new job.

I knew I made a grave mistake forgoing treatment to accept the great job offer I was given. Did I blow it? Not intentionally, but it's hard to perform at the top of your game when your head is pounding and all you can think about is getting home to take your meds.

But this time it's going to be different; I'm taking charge. I've been working the phones all afternoon. I'm lining up appointments with my three main care providers. I'm going to go through the intensive physical therapy plan, I'm also going to have my psychological state reevaluated, and I'm applying for disability for at least until I get myself fixed. I've been working since I was 12 years old so I'm not a scammer.

The bottom line is I need a bottom line. Right now I can't work until I fix me. I sounds selfish, but I need this.

I am very sorry to hear that, but I think your attitude in response to it is admirable. We are nothing without our health.

Good luck!

Oh Dan,

So sorry to hear it but perhaps it is for the best. You had really been hedging if this was the right decision to do or if you should have done the treatment for yourself. Well now it's time to take care of you. I do hope it is able to help you regain functionality. And taking care of you is never selfish - you have to do this for you so you can have a "normal" life.

I hope things everything works out for you and the PT does really help.

I knew it was going to happen Empty Intensive physical therapy

Post  estre004 Wed Mar 17, 2010 2:40 pm

I'm really sorry, but you gave it a shot. You did what you could do.

I'm sorry this is your post, but --
This brought up a question that has been on my mind. You mentioned intensive physical therapy. I had a car accident that instigated a migraine that was going on at a level 10 for 2 days which just doesn't happen with me because usually my abortives work but they weren't working.
My neuro put me on a steroid pack and told me if this didn't work, the next step was physical therapy.
?????? Luckily the steroid pack worked. But I am curious. What in the heck kind of physical therapy would work for migraines?

So sorry to hear that Dan. I've lost three jobs due to migraines (let go due to ill health). It really sucks.

I hope things start looking up for you

Dan

I have recently had to make the very same choice. Supposedly my job is still there waiting for me when I get better but its been a year and a half. They are not going to wait forever. I just found out that they hired 2 new people which means my desk will be full which means I will no longer have a place to sit if I do feel good enough to go in. It was already heart breaking to see my position/title given to someone else and see it on the organization chart after working there for 10 years. I love my job more than anything besides my son. I don't have anything else to live for. But even on the rare occasions I make it in there for 2 hours I can not perform my usual duties. I can not think like I used to.

I have finally decided to try this iffy MHNI place because it is the only choice offered to me after trying everything else. I've even been to the Swedish Pain and Headache Institute. They are supposed to be the best for migraines. Dr. Aurora was just like people described Dr. Saper...rude, not available, no help. They tried DHE and migranal and when both made me worse she refused to see me again. So like you I HAVE to do this to maybe get a life back. But its only a hope. I do have a lot of people praying for me but they've been praying for 3 years. I'm beginning to wonder.

>>> What in the heck kind of physical therapy would work for migraines? <<<

One of the problems I have with my neck is Cervicalgia, which in a nut shell means the muscles in my shoulders and upper back are pulling on my spine causing the nerves to become inflamed. If it gets bad enough is spreads down my spine and up into my head triggering the throbbing migraines.

The idea is to stretch the muscles so they don't exert as much pressure on my spine. I was also told it will get worse before it gets better. confused

Dan,

I'm so sorry, BUT it sounds like you're keeping a positive can do attitude about getting things lined out.

It always helps me when I have a plan of attack. Sounds like you're on the right. I think it was very important though that you tried the job. I think you would've been wondering if you took the right track with disability if you hadn't.

Dan,
I understand and support your decision 100%.
Carrying on miserably will not make anyone happy.
It's time to start all over again and fix things.
Your health above all.
Take care

Oh Dan, I'm so very sorry. I know you aren't shocked after last week, but I know it's hurting you. And I know what you're going through at home, too. I can only sympathize with you and hope PT works out and disability pans out. Remember to be as honest as possible, telling them how little you can do for yourself and how dependant on doctors you are.
