Ok, so I have been suffering a lot lately, and was not sure how I would do on my beach vacation.

Crazy thing....I did not have even one migraine while there!

I did almost die from my allergic food reaction....but no migraines ( need to carry an epi-pen now).

The best part....I drank like a fish! Mojito's non-stop.

Just before we left, I had a call from the pain specialist I have been waiting to see. Because of the havoc of the Olympics (his office is in the middle of it) he changed his hours and many people could not make the very early AM appointments....but I COULD...so I got in to see him today a full three months early!!!!

He was/is awesome, and has a strong belief that people should never be forced to live in pain. He is blunt....and had a lot to say about "mental health and migraines" but I feel very safe in his hands.

It is such a relief. He is going to take over my botox injections...and we are going to try to get me off of it now that I've been on the supplements for three months.

He had a lot of ideas as to why I had no migraines in Cancun. I found it really odd, as I usually really suffer if I drink even one drink.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? I mean, going from harsh suffering to migraine-free simply by changing location?

Hello Milo

It's been so long since I posted that I forgot my login and had to get a new one.

So to your question about not having a migraine in a new location. I have experienced the same thing particularly when I travel to places that are sea level. My migraines come much less often. I live at just a bit of altitude about 3800ft above sea level but just enough to affect me. The migraines are much worse when we have changes in barometric pressure.

One of my worst migraines actually happened on a ski trip where I had travelled to 12,000ft above sea level, just awful having to go to the er on vacation. On the other hand going on a cruise, to San Diego CA, Manhattan and Santorini Island all places where the migraines were less frequent. Some of these trips were business so it's not like my stress was lower. I've had to stay in some of these places for a 4-6 weeks at a time so I don't think it's coincidence.

We're actually contemplating a move if the economy recovers enough.

Hope this helps a bit.

This is weird, but for unknown reason some people experience relief from M by drinking alcohol.

I know, you've said normally alcohol triggers an episode for you, but still, under certain circumstances perhaps it actually relieved the pain?

I also believe the steady nice climate, perhaps the sea level and even air humidity could have had the role in the absence of M.

but I am dying to know what were your dr's ideas as to why?

Yes, it has happened that changing location (for a vacation) has given me the joy of being 100% pain free.
I guess that the vacation itself is a good way to reduce many triggers, stress first (in my case).
Bye

I think I may have it partially figured out.

The new pain doc thinks my posture is HORRIBLE and a possible cause to my migraines. In my day to day life, my body goes into a slump. While on vacation, I didn't need to slouch as much.

My headaches are back, so I've been trying to correct my posture each wave of pain....and I think it is actually quite effective.

I'll try to keep it up and see if it helps.
