soft ice packs Empty soft ice packs

Post  Kem10 Sat Aug 01, 2015 7:52 am

Last night the migraine was so severe that imitrex and fiornal didn't even begin to touch it so I wrapped a large ice soft ice pack in a hand towel and put it on the left side of my head for almost 3 hours. That did help a good bit and I was able to fall asleep. Perhaps the ice pack thing might help someone else at some point as we all know that different migraines can respond differently from one time to the next.

Sorry you had such a tough time. Great reminder on ice packs!

I have a SootheAway thermal therapy system, and its pretty awesome. Luckily I got my insurance to reimburse some of the cost, as otherwise it is quite pricey. It was annoying though as my insurance said they would cover it in advance, but wouldn't tell me their "allowed" amount.

Therefore although I knew they would cover 80%, I didn't know of what cost. It wasn't too far off from the retail value though. SootheAway also has all the info on their website to get pre approval from your insurance, including the form for my doctor to sign.

If any of you find ice packs helpful, and have insurance with good Durable Medical Equipment coverage, you may want to give it a try.

For me, it is much much better than ice packs. The temperature stays constant (and exactly where I want it) and the pads wrap around my head. If I'm feeling up to it I can sit up or even move around a bit with it on, instead of being stuck however I can get the ice pack to stay on my head.

The only drawback is the noise (pump), but the leads are quite long, so I can tuck it around the couch or something. The company was also really helpful answering questions and even extended their 30 day return policy another 30 days as I hadn't heard back from my insurance on reimbursement (and couldn't afford to keep it if their rejected the claim).

Sorry this sounds like a SootheAway commercial, but I think it is an awesome product for those of us with a chronic and/or severe headache condition. Best wishes.

I use ice packs regularly. They at least help me feel a little better and they help a lot with sleep.

Isn't it strange as cold packs just make my migs worse. I put a microwave hottie on the side of my neck which sometimes helps, except when it's too hot thus making me overheat!

Hubby never ever wants cold for his migraines, but they're aretimes that it's the only thing that helps me. To each their own, I guess

ice does Not help me. If I take a Triptan and stand in a hot shower I can get relief. I let the water run over my head and face and it really gives me relief!! The migraine won't go away however unless I take a triptan. Sometimes it works right away and sometimes it takes a little while.

Ice is so soothing to me. My husband says it makes him worse! So funny.
