You can read the Pubmed abstract here:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/23886520/

Over 12 weeks, reducing Omega 6 intake and increasing Omega 3 intake reduced headache days and headache hours.
Pretty impressive and should have general health benefits as well.

This study was only for chronic headaches; no data on migraines or cluster headaches.

How to reduce omega 6:

Very interesting.. The Omega 6 link you posted has been removed but there's plenty of info on Omega 3 and 6 on the web. You can increase Omega 3 by taking fish oil supplements. Also very good for general health.

Fair enough. Yep, there's plenty of info out there. I got a lot out of Evelyn Tribole's website, but she stopped updating it ages ago.
Chris Kresser's is pretty good too. I think I read somewhere that you need to be really careful that the fish oil capsules are fresh. break one open every now and then and make sure they don't smell rancid.

Sounds like this might be well worth a try, thanks egk. I just finished my second bottle of Petadolex with no benefit so that is a no go.

Eating lots of fish, like salmon and mackerel and using for cooking organic rape seed oil are the best natural source of omega oils and in this way you know you have a fresh product.
Supplements are good, but including right foods your everyday diet is even more important.

I took omega 3 for several years.  While it helped at first, later my headaches started creeping up. They decreased again when I stopped taking it.  So perhaps there is a just right level -- not too little, not too much..

Thanks Migraine girl. Sometimes I think of migraine as actually having an intelligence that is able to figure out how to beat anything we do that helps for a while. I do know better but still it sure seems like it at times.  Shocked

Thank you for the link Kem.
My problem with some foods which contain Omega fats is that for example: walnuts, and any other nuts can ve a M trigger for me if they are rancid, and you cannot tell until you try, so now I avoid them.

Also any soya products (which are often hidden as an ingredient in many other foods, and sauces) and they are an instant M trigger for me.

Sorry, I have forgotten, when mentioning rape seed oil as a source of Omega oils that in US rape seed is called canola.

There is also this useful simple link explaining the health benefits of rapeseed/canola oil comparing it to other oils (not commercial!):
http://rapeseedoilbenefits.hgca.com/guide-to-rapeseed-oil/rapeseed-oil-health-benefits.aspxit is called canola, not rapeseed oil
