A frustrating day Empty A frustrating day

Post  micheletroyer Fri Mar 21, 2014 1:36 pm

I just got off the phone with Humana, and found out that the fax my neuro's office sent on March 4th to request prior authorization for Botox never got there.  I've been waiting 3 weeks to hear something, with daily migraines.  Humana said they could do the PA over the phone in 10 minutes.  Called the neuro's office, and of course, they closed early today.

Trying really hard not to be angry to the point of making today's migraine a full blown "10".  Going to Dr. at 3 to get rescue meds...second time this week.  I'm not seeing my normal provider, so I hope the doc is willing to give the good drugs.   drunken

Doctor was an ass, but in the end he gave me the pain meds.  Going to sleep now.

Sorry it's been such a pain.  I hope you feel better and the treatment works quickly now that you have been approved.

It's good that you finally got some relief. Sad how few doctors have any concept of how to treat a migraine.

So sorry you had to go thru that. It is frustrating especially when you are in pain.

With my previous MD, I would have to see another Doc when he was out and even though I had years of documentation of what worked and what didn't work for my pain, I often had to convince them to give me what I needed. There were times they refused to do it and I had no choice but to wait til my Doc returned.

So glad that they ended up giving you what you needed.

Talked to the neuro's office this morning and they refaxed the PA request.  3 hours later, I called Humana and they had indeed received this fax.  Now that I have their direct number, I will be checking in with them (read that being a pain in the ass) until they approve the Botox.

Have a bad migraine today, and normally would have gone in, but I'm still haunted by the scolding I got from the asshole doctor about coming in too ofter and getting too much Demerol and I'll become an addict, and he'll say "I told you so."  So, sitting in the recliner with the shades drawn and ice on my head.  Tomorrow will be better, as the cold front will have moved on out of here.

I wish these guys who seem so worried about possible addiction had something else to offer.
"Just suffer" isn't a really good alternative.  If it takes pain killers to lead a normal life, then so be it.
If they want to take that away, then let's see some viable alternative. The fact is you are trying
to get access to one such alternative (Botox), and the insurance company (or error at the doctors office)
is standing in your way.  Moralizing on someone in that position is just plain heartless. It's rubbing salt in the wound.  I've lost patience with these people. Arrogant ignorance is a bad combination.
