Cyclical Migraine - Child Empty Cyclical Migraine - Child

Post  migraine mom Sat May 12, 2012 10:16 pm

I am new to the forum. My son has been suffering from cyclical migraines since he was at least 3 1/2 if not earlier. He has had every test in the books. They tried him on various migraine meds which did nothing. We have been searching for 8 years for something to help. When he was 4 he got so sick he couldnt even walk (other issues in addition to the migraines too). His migraines at that time were every month like clockwork and lasted only a day but was quite severe and usually went to emerg. for dehydration from the vomitting. We found a Naturopath which helped him so much, however he was still getting the migraines . They eventually moved to every week but were less severe. We were never able to find any triggers because his migraines came every week regardless of season, regardless of anything. I suspected allergies. He was tested when he was 2 (nothing) and again at 8 or 9 where they told us cats & dust, that was all. In march of this year, we went to another naturopath who tested him for allergies. We found out he was allergic to gluten. He has been off Gluten since about mid March, and he has not had a migraine coming up to 4 weeks. I hope and I pray that this is the answer we have been waiting for all these years. Will keep you posted.
I am wondering if there are any other moms of migraine sufferers on this forum. The neurologist we saw said it was common for children to have migraines - and acted like migraine is in illness on its own, but I disagree, I feel it is a symptom of something else. And I wont give up until I find the source. Hopefully, I have with this gluten allergy.

Cyclical Migraine - Child Empty cyclical migrain for past 5 years

Post  mykidsaredizzy Tue Oct 23, 2012 9:39 am

Hi: My daughter has had a recurring migrain (every 65-70) days for the past 5 years. Nothing seems to help.
She always wakes up in the morning with the migrain, vomits alot, then feels better as the day passes. The next morning she feels bad again.
This can last for 5-7 days, after that she feels fine.
She also feels very dizzy durring this attack.

We started a glutten free diet this week.

How is your son doing?

My son has had for the past year a migrain associated vertigo (no pain) also at predictable recurrent times. (every 75 days)

Thanks for sharing information.

Hi mykidsaredizzy, I sent you a reply to your private message, but wanted to update everyone else. My son has had great success with the gluten free diet. From March to August - zero migraines.(compared to every week) YAY. Laughing End of August he had one, and then a couple more after school started. (He is very sensitive to Electromagnetic frequencies so I think the WIFI in the schools for smart board may be the culprit.) Even still I am pleased with the results and as difficult as it is to be limited on diet - the positives outway the negative. Also forgot to mention: I am in Canada and I am able to keep my receipts for the gluten free products and write off the difference on my taxes (not sure if the us has this as well - it is under our medical expenses) ie. if regular bread costs $3.00 and gluten free $6.00 I can write off the extra $3.00.

For the reply about the daughter with the cyclical migraines that is my daughter's exact experience. Have you tried a gluten free diet and had any success?

Cyclical Migraine - Child Empty gluten free diet

Post  mykidsaredizzy Wed Jan 22, 2014 9:46 am

Hi:
We tried a glutten free diet for 2 months with no success.
She takes B2 and B complex and it seems to have helped with the amout of pain and dizziness,
but the attack comes at regular intervals anyway.
My son also takes Magnesium and this also may have helped abit but he also continues getting the attack.
