Pregnant with a migraine
Hi All,
Hoping someone can give me some advice...I've had migraines for more than 20 years and generally manage them with aspirin and codeine. I am 7 weeks pregnant and finally have a migraine. Up until now, I've had the longest migraine-free stretch since I was 12, which has been nothing short of miraculous.
This migraine is in my left eye...I feel the corner of it throbbing along with my left temple. As far as all the literature goes, pregnant women should only take tylenol which for me, does almost nothing. I've taken two today with minimal relief.
Any migraneurs out there who have gone through pregnancy? What did you do for acute treatment?
Thanks...feddy.

re: pregnant with a migraine
I went through a pregnancy with migraines last year. It's rough. I found that it got better in the 2nd trimester.
I used chiropractic to get through the first trimester. I found a chiropractor who specialized in Active Release Therapy and that helped somewhat. When I got a migraine, I would have some caffeine (my doctor said this was safer for the baby than meds and it worked better than Tylenol). He also recommended using mint essential oils on my forehead. Other than it, it was the same old go into a dark room, cool cloth on the forehead. There is not a lot of relief, unfortunately. I found focusing on my baby helped too, the sacrifice of pain at least had a goal.
My neurologist also put me on Magnesium which is safe during pregnancy and helped on a preventative basis.
Good luck and congratulations on your pregnancy!
