I really hate those guys that accost you in the mall with smelly skin products they insist on having you try. And they just don't take no for an answer. Talk about an instant migraine trigger.
It's getting so I don't even want to go shopping any more and that's just sad.

Yes, I remember these people who jump out of nowhere in some big stores, and  try to spray such noxious  substances in the air, even the best smelling ones are poison to M sufererrs.

However, I must admit that I have not come across anyone like this in years - I live in UK and I tink these days there is a growing awarness, as to the danger of unwanted smells and even these nasty fluorescent lights.

The last one I ran into, I'm sure I looked like I'd began performing an exorcism, or something similar.  I jumped back, crossed my arms while waving my hands to say no, stop.  Then I blurted loudly, no, please don't, I've got horrible scent allergies.  Thankfully, it stopped them, so I could sprint past the perfume counter to get to the clothing I needed to look up

Oh, I do know exactly what you mean!

I used to be a Hearing Aid Dispenser and some people would come in smelling like they took a bath in perfume or cologne.

Men's strong musky cologne is the worst for me though.

And after they left it was even hard to get what lingered out of the office.

That part of the job I really don't miss.

Once when I was seeing my old MD, I was telling him that someone's perfume gave me an instant migraine while I was waiting to see him.

He about had a fit because he thought I was referring to one of his staff members.

I explained that no, it was a patient in the waiting room waiting to be seen.

He left the room to have the nurse get my scripts and I heard him pop into another room to see another patient before he came back in to see me.

When he came back in he said, "I think I just encountered your instant migraine trigger!"

I thought that was so funny!

If it's the ones that just keep talking, and won't take no for an answer, my trick is to 'not speak' whatever language they're asking questions in.  I figured it out on a Caribbean cruise, since the street vendors won't take no for an answer.  I just tilt my head and look puzzled, no matter how many languages they repeat the question in.

Or if it's an item I might actually want, I cruelly low ball the price.  Like offering $1 USD on a $5-10 item.  That gives me LOTS of  negotiation room.  Then I make sure that I can pull out $1-2 without showing any other money, and tell them it's all I've got, sorry.
