Fentanyl patch..is anyone taking this

Post  Greeneyes on Thu Dec 10, 2009 7:10 pm

Hey Guys,
It's been 3 or 4 years since I've taken the Fentanyl patch..I can't remember how long it takes before it should be helping?

Just started this last night..head is still really hurting.

Hope you guys are having a good day.

Love and Blessings,
Greeneyes

I did a quick google and the FDA page states it can take as long as 12-18 hours for the first patch to work.

http://www.fda.gov/fdac/features/2006/206_fentanyl.html

I read someone had results after just 8 hours though. Good luck with it, hope you get relief soon.

Does the Fentanyl patch help with the migraine or is it more for the neck and back? Where on the body does it get applied?

Thanks--just wondering if it would be a better option for my neck and back and also help with the migraines?

Thanks!

Becky

I hope you get some relief from the patches, Wendy. I know you've been really suffering for a long time.

Hi Wendy,

I really hope you get some relief with the patch- I know you could use some. I have tried the patch twice. On both occaisions, i had to stop it because it made me depressed and out of it. That said, everyone is different. I really hope it helps to relieve some of your pain. What doseage are you on? I believe my neuro started me on 25mcg and increased to 50mcg.

Good luck.

Pain free days,
sailing,

Hi!

My pain doc said that it can take up to 9 days to get the full effect of the patch. I have been on the patch for 6 months or so. I don't remember how long it took. Do you have any breakthrough meds? I still take a fare ammt of breakthrough meds. The patch is genius though! I haven't had this little pain in 10 years. I hope it works for you. I am guessing that the Dr.'s appt went well?

Having an awful time with the Fentanyl patch

Post  Greeneyes on Mon Dec 14, 2009 3:59 am

Ugh, not a happy camper..started the patch on Wednesday..can't get the patch to stay on..waterproof tape isn't even working..Help please!!

How do you get it to stay on? Washed with soap and water, then applied rubbing alcohol..tried the back, then the arm..yikes .

Thanks

I had a hard time in the beginning getting the patches to stay on. I have stopped washing or using alcohol. I wipe the area with some cold water and dry it with a paper towel. Then stick the patch on and hold my hand over it for a few minutes (it apparently gets the adhesive warmed up and sticky.). I put them on my belly on either side of the belly button. They call it the flank. I can't get the adhesive off though Smile The sandoz brand sticks the best. I have a small allergy to the adhesive in both brands. they itch like the devil. I have gotten used to it. The watson brand doesn't itch as much.

If you still can't keep them on try putting a big bandaid over the whole thing. That is the only thing I have found that will hold the little suckers on.

good luck!
