Deep pressure vest

Post  Jewishmother on Thu Apr 11, 2013 11:13 am

When my migraines occur it feels like there is a neurological sh*t storm going on in my head - I need to remove myself from all stimuli in order to get my brain to chill - it is like my brain just can't process all the stimulation coming at it. I also have deep back and shoulder muscle pain that sometimes accompany my migraines and the pain can hang on for days.

I have always thought that when the neuro storm happens that I get a glimpse of what it is like to be autistic -in autism, the brain is unable to process sensory information normally. I have a friend who is a special needs teacher and she came over this week and just held and squeezed me and it really did help release some of my pain and hypersensitivity - I could just feel it melting away.

I am curious if anyone has noticed that squeezing or hugging helps. Also, I am considering buying a deep pressure vest that is designed for people with sensory issues to see if that might help chill out my brain. Any thoughts?

Do you think that the oressure you mention might be simply restricting the blood flow to the brain and therefore reducing the pressure inside your head? Just a thought, Never heard of the pressure chest so I acnnot comment.

I sometimes have my friend squeeze my head. Not as hard as he can, probably, but still he'll squeeze pretty hard. It helps for about 30-60s and then the effect seems to stop so I just have him do it for a short break from the pain.

leslie, i've always like pressure on my head also. having read about pressure vests for autism, i do wonder if they would be useful for folks like us.

they seem to be made of neoprene, which is a pretty HOT material. i've only done a little research, though. if you find something that sounds good, and not too expensive, would you mind posting it?

and if you do try one, i'm anxious to know what it does for you. thanks, dianne
