After my pain (usually in my scalp) breaks I am left with shoulder and back pain that feels like my muscles are crying............the only thing I have found that works is using a massager for hours. Does anyone else experience this?

Muscle pain Empty Pain!

Hello,

I don't have this happen after the migraine, but before and during. My shoulders especially are so sore, and you can't even touch them -- must be trigger points. The massage sounds like a great idea, though... does it make the pain go away?

I get all over muscle pain, often, but not only, during M.
I also have Fibromyalgia so I am not sure the pain is caused just by M, although I have definitely noticed that it gets much worse during M. I think there is some connection.

My only guess is that both (M and F) are obviously caused by inflammation, and therefore one triggers the other - a kind of chicken and egg situation - in a way I am not sure which comes first.

Jewishmother, I find that it is a great relief when whilst massaging the affected areas I do it with the
Ibuprofen gel (the higher concentration of 10%, not he 5% gel), including my neck and shoulders.

I live in UK but I believe the gel is also available in US. I like it, because unlike other ointments, this gel is not only transparent and non-greasy but it has no smell, which can be so irritating with other creams etc.
I hope this is of some help.

Thanks for the information - I will look for the gel the next time I go to the pharmacy. I am having a very painful week - storms all week - and have discovered that strong hugs do help release some of the muscle pain........

Hugs are good for anything, don't you think?
But apart from hugs, I also find that doing streching exercises, especially immediately after shower or taking a bath when your body is already warmed up, can be extremely beneficial for all sorts of body aches and pain. A kind of gentle Pilates, but only what you can do, without forcing your limbs or spine.

I kind of a "cat stretch", all over your body few times first thing in the morning, is a good begining.
I find that streching is very calming, and helps me with my Fibro quiet a lot. I do it even when I watch TV etc.

But before doing any exercises, however gentle it is good to have a quick word with your Dr to make sure that it is OK for your to do them.
