Looking for help, could this be migraines? Empty Looking for help, could this be migraines?

Hello. I have been having episodes for 3 years now...usually about once a week or two, sometimes less often. I always know when an episode is coming on because they always start out with my eyes feeling heavy and then a "dark" heaviness coming over my head. I get real out of it and feel kind of fluish...the severity of my headache varies, sometimes severe, sometimes mild, and is usually on my left side. I have severe nausea with (slight)dizziness and I get very fatigued and pretty much so knocked on my butt for 2-3 days. I have been to every specialist with no answers and this is ruining my life and I have had to quit my job. It wasn't until last night when I was once again trying to figure out what is going on that someone mentioned migraines in one thread (on another board). I never really thought it could be migraines because I thought migraines were just severe headaches and didn't have other symptoms, but now I am reading different. I know you all cant say for sure, but I am feeling a little hopeful here and I am hoping that you all can atleast tell me if it sounds like it COULD be migraines. Thanks for any input/help you may have!

Sorry you are having to go through these episodes.

Migraines are often thought of as "neurological" events and they often affect far more than head pain. Nausea is a common symptom: in fact a few migraineurs get nausea/throwing up rather than headache as their main symptom.

Pr-migraine symptoms (sometimes called "prodrome" often involve tiredness, oversensitivity, irritability etc.)

Of course you need a real diagnosis from a Doctor, but certainly what you describe could fit in with a migraine profile, so that is one avenue to consider.

Certainly migraines are a possible diagnosis - it is usually a rule-out diagnosis after they have eliminated everything else - there are no tests for migraines. Do they run in your family? Try to find a migraine specialist or neuro in your area and please keep us posted! L

Looking for help, could this be migraines? Empty maybe some answers...

Thanks for the replies. I went to urgent care today after I couldn't take it any more and they said it sounded like something viral AND migraines. 3 years of this and the night after I feel I may have finally figured it out it is for the first time brought up by a doctor, how ironic. She said she suffers from migraines so she recognized my symptoms. I came right home and scheduled an appt for next week with my doctor and I will see what I find out. I am excited that I may finally have some answers! I have a lot of research and reading to do on my own, but right now I need rest. Thanks again!
