Botox Tomorrow! Empty Botox Tomorrow!

Post  Billy Ray Wed Mar 10, 2010 3:23 pm

Well here goes. After trying to get this done for the last year I will get Botox tomorrow at 1.30pm. It is worth a try. My Dr. really thinks it will help -- alot. I will be glad for a little help. He has had very good luck helping other migraine people. The price is right --$200 is his charge. He said that is just for the Botox. He does 4 people at a time. I am last. Have no idea what to expext so was hoping if anyone here could tell me what will it first feel like? Does it help right away or does it take time? And I know that is if it does anything. I know it does not help all.Do they just put it in or will he numb the area first? Have not had a chance to ask the Dr this because we have been trying to set a day since Dec. Has anyone ever heard of it causing anxiety? So many things cause that for me -- and it is terrible. I had steriod shots a few times and it left me with a buzz feeling that took about 3 weeks to melt away. What makes this bad is I still work nights. So 1.30 is right when I sleep. So plan to sleep till Botox time -- then return and sleep right up till I need to work. Really need to try to work because have missed alot this year since on night shift. Will let you all know how it goes. Take care. Billy

Hi Billy Ray,

I've had botox injections at Mayo. It wasn't painful, just a pin prick sensation. I had the injections to my forehead, temples and my upper back and shoulders. Unfortunately, it didn't do anything for me. It was nothing to be anxious about. The pin prick compared to a migraine was no big deal.

I hope and pray they will be successful for you. Keep us posted.

Wow, the price sure is right. We paid ten times that for my treatment (actually the first time was more as it was an initial visit- the second time slightly less than ten times your cost.) Unfortunately it wasn't helpful, but I decided to try a second time as I was told that the second time can be much more helpful than the first.

The doctor didn't use anything to numb the area first. It was a lot of small shots and some were painful, but nothing like a migraine- and it was fast. He injected my forehead and temporal areas. The second time he did all that as well as the occipital area. The cosmetic effects were noticable after three days, the relief from migraine was supposed to occur after about four or five days.

I did get neck pain from the procedure both times- according to the Botox website this is a fairly common side effect, but as the botox wore off, the pain became less. This doesn't happen to everyone, of course. The effects last about two and a half to three months. I was told that often, if it is effective, that after a time you can go longer between treatments.

I hope it is helpful to you.

Yes, that is a good price for the botox. Mine was about 8 times that cost and involved several appeals to my insurance to get even a portion of it paid.

Really great price!

The shots can hurt quite a bit depending on who is giving them, how much they inject, how they inject, where they inject and how often the needle gets changed.

I am one of those out there that got a really good response to start with , but it has since been less effective.

I wish you the best luck.

The pain is NOTHING compared to a migraine...and so worth it.

Afterwards, my head feels funny, almost like your mouth does after a dentist freezes it. It's wierd and neat all at the same time.

No, they didn't numb me first. They only place that it hurt was on my forehead because there's no fat to cushion it. But, I found it merely uncomfortable, and fleeting.

I had five different sessions with it. Each time they did my neck, temples and forehead. I had success with the 1st and 3rd sessions. It didn't completely eliminate the M's but it brought the severity and frequency down quite a bit.

I quit doing it because my insurance quit covering it and it cost $1200 a session which happened every three months.

I have the same reaction to steroids...I go up the wall with agigtation, sheets are too heavy, necklaces are too heavy, everything is a irritant. I didn't have any such reaction with Botox. I would do it again in a heartbeat if I could afford it (or if I could find someone to do it for $200!).

Good luck!

Thanks so much for the posts. Not to worried about the injections because we all know we all are used to alot of pain. My Dr has been doing this for just over a year. He said he just wants us to pay for the Botox. He know the pain I live with so he is glad to do this for me. I also heard that it seems like it works better the 2nd time. So I will see. Will try to post updates later. Hope to work tonight but will be hard with very little sleep. Billy

Botox Tomorrow! Empty Anxious to hear your results

My neurologist wanted to inject botox into my neck and shoulder to stop the spasms and pain there, which may also be triggering my migraines. But I hesitated due to the high cost ($500) not covered by insurance and some of the negative outcomes people told me about.

But if you are successful I may reconsider.

Best of luck with the procedure and I hope it really helps your migraines.

Just had it done. To soon to tell how it did. Dr did line ubove both eyes and did extra spots over my right eye where 90% of my bad migraines start. Took about 20 min. I think it cost so little because it did not seem like he used much. But he did cover my main pain spots. So we will see. Hard to say how I feel because got home from work(lot's of stress) and got maybe 3 hours of sleep -- then Lily woke me from a sound sleep and I had to fly to the clinic. So now have to leave for work in 4 hours. All this is a trigger for a bad one. So will see if it helps. Was told no caffine today because may cause buising where the injections were. He tried to place the line in the muscle above the eye lids. Will try to post over the weekend to see if any better. I still think the best cure is praying. I find myself praying alot at night. I pray for something that will helps us all find painfree times. I pray the ones so much more worse than I am. I pray for the familys, friends and Drs who truly understand our pain and care about us. Some day our hopes will be heard.

Thanks for letting us know how you made out, Billy Ray. I hope the possible migraine doesn't develop.

I'm with you on the prayer. At times it feels like there are so many people in the world suffering. My prayer list just keeps growing.

oh...just a quick warning, I get terrible migraines following each set of injections....so be careful with adding up all your triggers! Week three is supposed to be the week with the most positive effect.
